Position Title: Physical Education Teacher FLSA Classification: Exempt
Reports to: Principal
Position Description: Organize, instruct and teach amateur student athletes in the fundamentals of individual and team sports.
Essential Functions: Teach sport techniques, playing rules, strategies and playing tactics. Condition student athletes appropriately for activities requiring endurance, strength and agility. Supervise and conduct practices and contests safely; including locker rooms and buses. Teach sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic, and responsibility to one's team. Monitor the student athletes' school attendance, grades, and personal conduct, stressing the importance of each to the students. Manage uniform and equipment inventory. Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's athletic progress. Notify administrators immediately when there is evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or students appearing to be under the influence of any controlled substances. Purchase, inventory, store, and maintain supplies and equipment for the program. Identify signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bring them to parents' or guardians' attention. Utilize preventive discipline methodology with assigned students. Demonstrate an understanding of the Imagine Schools Non-Profit Six Measures of Excellence in the execution of duties. Model positive character virtues and habits. Assist students in developing positive moral and performance character attributes. Perform other duties as assigned by Principal/School Leader. Preferred Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree Experience: 1-2 years successful teaching experience and playing experience. Knowledge, Ability & Skills: Expertise in the sport assigned is required. Strong analytical, leadership, project management and organizational skills. Ability to lead the students with a positive attitude even when losing a competition. Able to demonstrate the physical activity to which they are assigned.
