Program College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP) and SC Johnson College of Business Cornell University Position Details The Paul Rubacha Department of Real Estate in the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning and the SC Johnson College of Business at Cornell University invites applications for a Professor of Practice position with teaching and administrative responsibilities. The candidate filling this position will teach classes in and serve as director of the department's Baker M.P.S. program in real estate. The position will be a part-time (50%) non-tenure track, 5-year renewable appointment, beginning July 1, 2024.
The Professor of the Practice's teaching responsibilities will be based at Cornell's Ithaca campus but could occasionally include instruction at the university's New York City campus facilities. In consultation with the department chair, the Professor of the Practice will develop and teach classes in the Baker M.P.S. that draw on the individual's industry experience.
The Baker Program Director role will include administrative oversight of the Baker M.P.S. Program, as well as developing and maintaining external relationships with professional real estate practitioners. This will include collaborative work with college alumni affairs, development, and external relations teams in addition to coordination with the department chair and the deans of the two overseeing colleges.
The ideal candidate for the position should possess an MBA, MPS in real estate, or related degree, and be familiar with the needs and goals of professional master's students. The individual should have outstanding communication skills and have experience working in complex professional environments with multiple valued constituents. Prior experience teaching in and/or directing a professional master's program in real estate is preferred as is a track record of helping graduates of professional real estate programs secure employment. Given the growing importance of Cornell's New York City campus, a successful candidate should be familiar with the NYC real estate environment and its professional community. A demonstrated record of helping to design and implement new academic and/or other instructional programs is desired.

Compensation Salary Range - $75,000 - 95,000, based on the selected candidate's qualifications. The d epartment will begin review of applications on May 27th, 2024. Department Details Situated within a world-class research university, the Paul Rubacha Department of Real Estate is jointly overseen by the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP) and the SC Johnson College of Business (SCJCB). The department manages a two-year professional master's program in real estate, the Baker M.P.S., with roughly 50 students in residence. A distinguishing feature of the program is its comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to real estate education, reflecting the different types of skills required for many career paths in real estate. This includes expertise in urban planning, architecture, law, finance, and economics. A further distinguishing feature of the program is its blending of academic in-class instruction along with input from industry professionals and out-of-class experience.
The Rubacha department presently has a complement of seven tenured faculty, one senior lecturer, and two Professors of Practice. These individuals have differing expertise that supports the multidisciplinary structure of both the department and the Baker M.P.S. degree.
The department's center of operations is in Ithaca, New York, where the resources and opportunities for innovative and interdisciplinary collaborations are extensive. The department is also developing increasing links to the academic and real estate professional community in New York City, drawing on Cornell's New York campus facilities.
