College Access Advisor (Part-Time) Northwest Georgia Educational Opportunity Center Serving Catoosa, Gordon, Murray, Walker, & Whitfield Counties University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Student Services Professional 1 - MR07/ Hiring Range $21,250 annually The College Access Advisor exists to successfully implement the plan of operation in the Northwest Georgia Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) grant funded by the US Department of Education. The Advisor will provide community outreach and college access, and enrollment services to a target population including low-income, adult, potential first-generation students and/or potential students. Duties and Responsibilities: Advising/Counseling Assists students with properly completing the FAFSA, Verification and Title IV forms, SAP appeals, scholarship applications, and identifying all college funding possibilities Administers and interprets career assessments including the MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory Assists students with all admissions requirements including application, locating transcripts, finding immunization records, and identifying resources for study for placement exams Connects students who need a high school equivalency to appropriate classes Develops and delivers College Access workshops and presentations to community residents in 5 counties Analyzes cost, accreditation, and major availability to assist residents with college selection Negotiates and devises a plan to resolve student loan default for all students in that situation Develops career potential and offers guidance to federal work study students, academic work service students, Psychology Practicum students, and Social Work Interns Strategic Planning Recruits number of residents assigned by project director within the designated service areas from the target population and provides college access services- at least 2/3 must be both low income and first generation Devises and documents an individual annual plan to meet all objectives outlined in the grant- 20% will complete their high school equivalency, 50% will apply to a college, 70% will apply for financial aid, and 40% will enroll in college Creates community partnerships and strengthens existing ones to establish referral networks Analyzing Applies definitions and instructions given by US Dept of Education to enter appropriate data on database for each potential student Obtains and secures appropriate documentation of income and contact information for each individual served Assists Director with completion of annual performance report for US Dept of Education Service Performs other duties and other essential functions as assigned Assists with other tasks during high peak workload Provides work direction to federal work study students, academic work service, Psychology Practicum students, and Social Work Interns The ideal candidate will possess the following: Knowledge of all aspects of financial aid and college admissions Must have excellent public speaking skills Excellent computer skills including working with a database, Excel, and word documents Excellent time management and organizational skills with case management and reporting skills Ability to advise and counsel students with career planning, financial aid, and admissions Ability to devise an individual annual strategic plan to meet all approved objectives in federally funded grant Ability to relate to the target population and market the advantages of a college education Ability to encourage and direct participants to educational opportunities through assessment, career planning, college application preparation, and financial aid planning Review of applications will begin February 12, 2024, and continue until the position is filled. This is a grant-funded position and is contingent upon the continued funding of the grant and satisfactory performance. If the funding for this position ends, this appointment will terminate on the last day of the grant contract.
Minimum qualifications: Typically requires bachelor's degree in education, psychology, marketing, or other related field, and two years of relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience . A valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively is required.
Preferred qualifications: A master's degree in education, psychology, marketing, or other related field; at least one year experience in higher education enrollment services; experience in college and career advising; and relatable experience as a first-generation low-income student and/or serving first-generation low-income students' families is preferred.
