SCHEDULE: 16 hours, TBD, Monday– Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm
LOCATION: 105 Chauncy Street. Boston, MA 02111
JOB DESCRIPTION: SUMMARY OF THE POSITION: Purpose and benefit of internship to the program/intern: The Outreach Specialist, working under the direction of the outreach leadership team, will work with Emergency Services clients on aspects of the Housing Search and Housing Stabilization, and will work on other projects as assigned, including research regarding landlord and other rental resources. The Outreach Specialist will receive supervision from the Program Supervisor, and will bring issues of clinical import or client interaction to the Clinical Supervisor's attention
REQUIREMENTS: QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: REQUIRED:
High School and current college enrollment working toward Clinical Master's DegreeBachelor's in a social science fieldGood written and verbal communication skills, good internet and email etiquetteGood computer skills, particularly in internet research and MS Office, including ExcelKNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: REQUIRED:
High degree of cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with diverse people and situationsKnowledge of and strong commitment to harm reduction philosophy, principles and practicesPHYSICAL ABILITIES/SKILLS: REQUIRED:

Provide outreach and engagement on the Streets of Boston, and case management work in the office.Utilize Trauma-Informed Care when interacting with clients.Assess clients on their vulnerability, chronicity, substance abuse issues, mental health symptoms, legal issues, health care, employment and income, independent living skills, and community engagement using to guide frequency and type of case management intervention. Actively manage an assigned caseload of chronically homeless street clients, with the goal of securing housing, and related benefits and services needed to retain housing and empower clients towards greater self–sufficiency.Actively participate in referrals and aftercare/discharge planning to and from treatment programs when appropriate.Provide crisis intervention and brief stabilization.The Outreach Specialist agrees to abide by all Pine Street Inn's personnel policies and procedures except as otherwise indicated by the terms of the internship documentation with Simmons University School of Social Work. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.Other duties as assigned in order to meet the needs of the organization during the COVID-19 pandemic or other public health or weather emergency.
