Introduction The Department of Natural Resources (DNR)'s Division of Public Safety and Resource Protection (DPSRP) is currently recruiting to fill a regional Outdoor Skills Trainer position. DPSRP is dedicated to protecting, enhancing, and promoting public safety and the State's natural resources through enforcement, education, and community involvement, and encourages everyone to be stewards of our natural resources on behalf of future generations.

Position Summary The Outdoor Skills Trainer position has the responsibility for coordinating a comprehensive recreational safety, education, and outdoor skills program within its assigned administrative area. These duties include: managing all aspects of the recreational education programs (Hunter Education, Bow Hunter Education, ATV, UTV, OHM (off-highway vehicles), snowmobile, boating); planning, logistics and coordination for training and providing guidance to the volunteer instructor corps as it relates to the safety programs and instructor certifications and continued education training; assisting with developing recreational safety instructor and student course content; assist with recruiting and training new coordinators; assisting with events, activities and programs involving hunting, shooting sports, archery and angling; and developing an informational service to include media relations, marketing, outreach and safety program messaging.
This position is also responsible for assuring consistent application of all department laws, policies and procedures for the recreational safety programs. The work performed by this position directly affects the ability of the Agency and the Division to carry out the recreational safety program certifications and needs of the State to the citizens and our volunteer safety instructors and mentors.

Salary Information The classification of this position is Staff Development Program Specialist, which is in schedule-range 81-04 with a starting pay of $29.00-31.50 per hour. This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period may be required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Job Details The DNR does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9 upon hire.

Must be eligible to drive a state vehicle by meeting the following criteria:
Have a valid driver's license Be at least 18 years of age Have a minimum of two years of licensed driving experience Have not had three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years Be free from any OWI/DUI violations within the past year Normally scheduled workdays are Monday through Friday, however some weekend and/or evening work and travel throughout the year is required.

Experience with outdoor recreation (e.g., participation in outdoor hobbies like boating, ATV/UTV operation, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, trapping, etc.). Experience using basic office software programs (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe, etc.) to create, prepare, and/or assemble training materials or handouts required for classes, meetings, etc. In addition, highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following: Experience providing instruction or mentoring in recreational safety programs (ATV/UTV/Snowmobile/Boating/Hunter Education) and/or Recruit, Retain, Reactivate (R3) programs, such as Learn to Hunt and Learn to Fish programs. Experience interpreting and/or enforcing Wisconsin laws or administrative rules related to any of the following: recreational vehicles and their operation, hunting, fishing, public safety, or natural resources protection.
