Position Summary: The William & Mary School of Education invites applications for a nine-month, open rank, tenure-eligible position in K-12 Educational Leadership, which will begin in August 2024. We seek an energetic, collaborative, productive colleague who will contribute to and expand a culture of scholarship at the School of Education through a rigorous research agenda and teaching excellence. We are searching for a colleague with deep knowledge of K-12 schools; critical theoretical perspectives; strengths in research methods, design, and analysis; and the ability to bring their skills to bear on the theory and practice of educational policy, planning, and leadership for our students, our K-12 partners, and the profession.
The Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership (EPPL) Department includes master's programs (M.Ed.) in both K-12 and Higher Education and doctoral programs (Executive Ed.D. and Ph.D.) in K-12 Administration, K-12 Curriculum & Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration, and Gifted Education Administration. Through our programs, we prepare educational leaders, researchers, and scholars who are equipped to confront challenges, leverage opportunities, and create new understandings in and for K-12 educational institutions and systems. This tenure-eligible position will primarily contribute to the Ph.D. in K-12 Curriculum & Educational Leadership and the Executive Ed.D. programs in K-12 Educational Leadership. Given the collaborative culture of our interdisciplinary department, faculty also regularly interact with colleagues and students across all of our programs. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will: Teach graduate courses in Educational Leadership, primarily supporting the Ph.D. and additionally the Executive Ed.D. and/or M.Ed. programs. We are particularly interested in candidates who can teach aspects of leadership theory and practice and the application of educational research. Maintain and expand upon a record of scholarship at a level of national prominence, including contributing regularly to refereed publications, national and international presentations, and grants/contracts. Actively support the EPPL doctoral programs through student advisement, serving on doctoral committees, directing dissertations, and contributing to ongoing program development. Constructively contribute to faculty governance and organizational improvement through service to the program, department, school, and university. Productively engage in service to the profession through meaningful involvement in professional organizations and collaboration with local, state, national, and/or international educational agencies. We offer a variety of course delivery modes. Both the M.Ed. and Executive Ed.D. in K-12 Administration are offered in cohort-based hybrid models. A separate Executive Ed.D. program in International Schools Leadership is offered in a fully online format. Most students in these programs serve in full-time professional positions and are therefore part-time students.The Ph.D. programs are offered primarily in a face-to-face, on-campus format, and most of our Ph.D. students are full-time. Our Ph.D. in K-12 Curriculum & Educational Leadership has been revised recently and centers inquiry on the manifestations of the written, enacted, and assessed curricula in schools within complex societal contexts and explicit and implicit systems. We are excited about what our new colleague will contribute to this evolving program. Required Qualifications: The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in educational leadership (or comparable area) with an emphasis in K-12 general administration, curriculum leadership, or a related area; a substantive and established record of scholarship in K-12 educational leadership and policy; and clear evidence of the ability to contribute at a level of national prominence. The candidate also must have leadership, supervisory, or related experience in a K-12 educational setting (e.g., superintendent, division head, principal, assistant principal, department chair, instructional coach, grade-level lead).
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate (a) recognition in their area of scholarship, (b) expertise in a range of research methods and designs, © relevant teaching experience in K-12 educational leadership graduate programs, (d) experience in dissertation advising, (e) experience designing and delivering online/hybrid instruction, and (f) experience in developing and administering external grants and/or formal external partnerships.
