Freedom Generating Station (FGS) is a $1 billion, 1,050 MW, 2x1x1 GE 7HA.02 combined cycle electric power generating Facility in Luzerne County, PA.
We are currently recruiting for an Operations & Maintenance Technician to join our Team. This position reports to the Operations Manager, works a rotating shift schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays; and is subject to scheduled and unscheduled overtime and after hours call outs as required.The candidate for this position will be responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of FGS while assigned to a Rotating Shift Team in the Operations Department. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Facility equipment and systems. This equipment includes combustion turbines, steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment such as heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), air-cooled condensers, air compressors, motors, pumps, valves, fire suppression systems, and all other balance of plant equipment. Strictly adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety.
Job ResponsibilitiesImplements strict adherence to all safety, environmental, NERC compliance, and Facility rules and regulations to protect employees, the public, and the Facility equipmentPerforms Inspection of Watch (IOW), surveillance rounds, on each systemOperates and maintains the combined cycle electric power generating Facility equipment with minimal guidanceContinually checks all phases of the operation for difficulties or irregularities, troubleshooting as necessaryInspects, adjusts, and controls all power production, auxiliary and Facility equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, and fluid levelsPerforms water chemistry analysis on HRSG, Auxiliary Boiler and Water TreatmentAdjusts water chemistry to maintain proper ranges by controlling chemical feed and/or blowdown ratesWorks with OMTs and water treatment vendor to properly monitor overall chemistry programOperates demineralized water system in accordance with OEM (original equipment manufacturer) specifications and plant procedures and monitors demineralized water to ensure quality is within acceptable limitsMaintains equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, filters, valves, and gaugesActively participates in the Facility's preventive and corrective maintenance programsUtilizes the Facility's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)Identifies and resolves Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) problemsAssists in calibrations and gas cylinder replacement and takes action to prevent environmental excursionsPerform general housekeeping and cleaning, including improvement of the appearance of all areas within the Facility and Control RoomParticipates in capital improvement projects and/or major program responsibilities as assigned by managementCoordinates purchasing with appropriate personnel and vendors to achieve timely repair of equipmentResponsible for ordering chemicals through established vendorsPerforms Lock Out-Tag Out of Plant SystemsResponsible for opening and closing circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and electrical isolationOutage planning and scheduling involvementAssists with development of O&M procedures, and the training of Facility personnelAssists with performing Root Cause Analysis of failuresOperates heavy equipment such forkliftsReads, understands, and complies with all regulatory procedures and Facility safety programsFollows all plant environmental permitsMaintains journals, logbooks, shift turnovers, and various other reportsWorks within the Team to develop a culture where everyone embraces, upholds, and accepts responsibility for a safe workplace, a healthy working life, a sustainable environment, and the right and duty to interveneRequired Skills / KnowledgeDemonstrated knowledge of all facets of power plant operations, including but not limited: to Heat Transfer, Fluid Flow, Electrical Theory, and Water Chemistry.Demonstrated ability to make competent decisions in emergencies.Capable of writing operating procedures, work requests, and written records.Must have good verbal and written communication skills.Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, Word, and Excel.Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals, and P&IDs.Will write routine reports, solve practical problems, and clearly communicate tasks and needs, and training of other personnel.Intermediate level of knowledge of mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical equipment. Typically gained from On-the-Job-Training (OJT) or formal education.Ability to identify and diagnose problems associated with mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment.Adept at troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with mechanical and electrical equipment, with the ability to apply a resolution in a timely fashion.Prior experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).Mechanical and electrical aptitude, including the ability to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Facility equipment, and to operate maintenance shop equipment.
