Posting Identification Number 37475 Position Overview The Illinois Department of Agriculture is seeking an Office Associate to manage its Seed Program and provide critical support to the managers of the feed, fertilizer, anhydrous ammonia and soil amendments programs. The Office Associate will perform these functions under the supervision of the Executive I who oversees the administration of the Illinois Commercial Feed Ace, the Illinois Commercial Fertilizer Ace, the Soil Amendment Act, the Illinois Seed Act and the Illinois Seed Arbitration Act. This person will issue seed permits, assist with the licensing of feed and fertilizer manufacturers and the registration of feed and fertilizer products, process incoming checks, order office and lab supplies, maintain program files, and serve as the primary public contact for the Department's Bureau of Agricultural Products Inspection, which provides consumer protection to the purchasers of feed, fertilizer, soil amendments and seed. The ideal candidate will be highly organized and have strong computer, data entry, filing, correspondence and record storage and retention skills. Essential Functions Under direction, performs highly specialized clerical duties relating to the seed, feed, fertilizer, anhydrous ammonia, soil admendment, chemistry lab and seed lab programs. Requires substantial responsibility and technical knowledge and understanding of agency programs, policies, and procedures. Responsible for processing certificates and typing all necessary information into the bureau program areas database systems. Prepares, organizes, and maintains all bureau program areas files. Assists in the evaluation, processing, preparing, and entering all analysis sheets to ensure accuracy. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school and two years of office experience. Requires the ability to keyboard 45 words per minute. Separate bureaus administer programs and services directed at conserving the state's land and water resources; protecting the health and welfare of livestock and companion animals; overseeing state and county fairs; regulating seed, feed and fertilizer products; ensuring the financial stability of grain dealers and warehouses; promoting Illinois food and agricultural products; and operating the state's horse racing program.

Preferred Qualifications Prefers extensive knowledge of office practices, procedures, and programs. Prefers extensive knowledge of composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Prefers working knowledge of basic mathematics. Prefers elementary knowledge of agency programs, rules, and regulations. Prefers experience with following oral or written instructions. Prefers experience with operating commonly used manual and automated office equipment and perform routine maintenance. Conditions of Employment Requires ability to pass a background check. Work Hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday (work hours may vary)
