JOB SUMMARY The Occupational Health Specialist's responsibilities include assisting and supporting the Occupational Health Nurse Manager implementation and maintenance of Occupational Health programming across the Proactive MD and client needs nation-wide. Policies and procedures, notification processes, equipment and software compatibility, triage planning, services workflow, etc. are all subject material to be uniformly developed, implemented and audited.

30% travel expected ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Maintain a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, providers, and co-workers in accordance with our Service Delivery Standards and Core Values
• Assists with pre-implementation site assessments and client discussions.
• Assist with tracking of required personnel certifications and equipment calibrations related to OH service offerings across all Proactive MD Health Centers.
• Assists in developing and updating Occupational Health policies and procedure guidelines in line with all applicable DOT, OSHA, NIOSH and other federally mandated laws, regulations and requirements.
• Assist with Occupational Health service implementation process and tracking of all steps to completion.
• Coordinate Occupational Health training to appropriate care team members to function independently at the highest clinical standards utilizing best practice approaches.
• Ability to perform necessary testing such as EKG's, Spirometry testing, visual acuity screenings, audiometric testing, and drug and alcohol testing.
• Perform routine site and chart audits to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and workflows along with any applicable laws, regulations, and requirements.
• Maintain document storage ensuring relevant and current documents are available for reference by key internal personnel.
• Assist with the development of Occupational Health training materials for health center staff.
• Assist with providing hands-on education and clinical oversight to clinical support staff.
• Assist with internal employee health program needs.
• Participate in meetings and in-services as requested.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Required: • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
• Holds a current and active licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse.
• Minimum one year of direct occupational health clinical experience in an outpatient setting.
• A firm understanding and experience with Occupational Health and Safety programs.
• Demonstrated knowledge of occupational health related regulatory guidelines and standards (DOT, OSHA, NIOSH).
• Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office products use including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Experience and proficiency using an EMR application in a healthcare setting.
• Strong organization and communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to prioritize needs and plan work accordingly while being nimble to changing priorities based on business needs.
• Ability to properly handle sensitive and confidential information (including HIPAA and PHI) in accordance with federal and state laws and company policies.
• Current BLS certification or ability to obtain within the first 90 days of hire.
• DOT Breath Alcohol Technician certification or ability to obtain within the first 90 days of hire.
• DOT Urine Specimen Collector certification or ability to obtain within the first 90 days of hire.
• Must be willing to travel.
Preferred: • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from a four-year college or university
• Certified Occupational Health Nurse-COHN/COHN-S certification
• Spirometry Certification- NIOSH approved
• Occupational Hearing Conservationist certification- CAOHC approved
• Direct experience conducting hands-on education and clinical training.
• Direct experience with auditing and performing quality assurance audit processes.
• Direct experience with providing the following occupational health services to patients:
o Audiometric Testing, Drug and Alcohol Testing, OSHA Medical Surveillance Program Administration, Respirator Fit Testing, Respirator Medical Evaluations, Spirometry Testing, and Work-related Illness/Injury Care.
• Knowledge of work-related injury workers' compensation claim processes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to verbally communicate, see, and hear.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and extended use of a computer and phone are required.
• The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift office products.
• Additionally, the employee will need to be able to lift/move/store individual 20-30 lb. boxes and items such as office and medical supplies and equipment.
POSITION TYPE & EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This role will be expected to work a minimum of 40 hours/week as directed. Typical workdays are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. This role is considered an exempt position. Evening and weekend work are infrequent but may occasionally be required as business needs dictate. This is a management role with professional growth opportunities within Proactive MD.
TRAVEL
Infrequent, domestic travel may be required and should be expected to be less than 30% of the position's overall responsibilities.
