The  Opportunity
Highline College (HC) is seeking qualified applicants for one full-time, lecturer position in the Nursing Program. Successful candidates will demonstrate the following abilities

Use equity-minded approaches to teaching and learning for a racially, ethnically, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse student body; Design curriculum, pedagogy, and assessments relevant to students; Value what students already know; Empower students to demonstrate knowledge in multiple ways as appropriate for the discipline and program. Candidates should be able and excited to teach Medical/Surgical content from basic to advanced topics of study.  Additional consideration will be given to candidates with knowledge and experience in specialty areas such as pediatrics, geriatrics, critical care, mother/baby, and especially mental health.

HC Nursing faculty teach a faculty load range 165-263 contact hours per quarter, advise students, and participate in college service activities.


This position is expected to begin in Fall Quarter, September 2024.

DID YOU KNOW? Highline College is in the process of implementing guided pathways as a campus-wide transformation strategy designed to improve student success and decrease equity gaps. HC received a federally funded, five-year Title III grant in October 2020 designed to support our guided pathways work. HC is also developing a new Equity-First Strategic Plan with broad campus participation. Duties and Responsibilities Please address the following in your application. If you don't have experience in an academic setting, please address within the framework of your professional experience:
Incorporate an equity-minded approach to teaching and learning; Teach a range of core nursing courses, including clinical rotations, which may include evening, weekend, and off campus sections; Provide on-campus and/or online instruction in nursing designed to promote effective learning; Create a positive learning environment for students using diverse teaching methods to support and enhance student success; Develop, assess, and analyze student achievement of course learning outcomes with goal of enhancing and improving student learning; Regularly participate with department colleagues in creating quarterly and annual assessment reports; Develop, monitor, and assess student learning outcomes and fully participate in the college's program improvement/program review process; Advise students in planning their educational programs at Highline and beyond; Pursue appropriate professional development activities related to advising; Participate in department, division, and other College activities, including College governance; Participate in faculty development opportunities related to discipline, program, and/or methods of teaching; Remain current in evidence-based practice in nursing, including participating in the design, assessment, review and revision of courses, where appropriate, in response to developments in the field; Maintain a current and active nursing license; Participate in Nursing Program accreditation preparation and activities; Complete other related duties and special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Have a minimum of a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and from a nursing education program that is accredited by a nursing education accreditation body recognized by the United States Department of Education; OR A bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and from a nursing education program that is accredited by a nursing education accreditation body recognized by the United States Department of Education, and a graduate degree in a health or education related field from an accredited college or university.

AND Nursing faculty shall have an active, unencumbered Washington state registered nurse license.  (WAC ******** ) Desired Qualifications: Teaching experience, preferably at the community college level; Two years of professional experience as a registered nurse; Clinical simulation experience; Fluency in one or more languages other than English.
