Lower Columbia College (LCC) is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable candidate to fill the role of nursing faculty.Flexibility in the face of rapidly changing circumstances and openness to dialogue about professional growth and continuous improvement are important traits for nurse educators on our team. Nursing faculty have the opportunity to be a part of our highly successful Nursing Program and provide nursing instruction in the classroom, skills lab, simulation lab and clinical settings. Classroom instruction may include in person, online, and hybrid modalities.

The Nursing Program consists of a mix of seasoned and novice nurse educators with varied professional backgrounds. Members of our team are invested in excellence in nursing education, and the academic and professional success of our students and graduates, the communities that we serve, and the continuous growth and development of the LCC Nursing Program. The Nursing Program is accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in nursing and prepares approximately 100 graduates each year for licensure as registered nurses as they begin their careers in nursing.

All Nursing faculty have opportunities to provide input about program practices and policies, participate in activities and behaviors that promote advancing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in both academic nursing and the nursing workforce, and pursue activities and behaviors that advance DEI in the campus community as well as the larger community.

The Faculty position is 173 contract days (fall, winter, spring) with an anticipated start of September 2024. Courses are delivered through multiple modalities including online, hybrid, and in-person. The salary range is $70,199 to $92,448 based on education and experience PLUS a retention stipend equal to 207% of the base salary. (Please note the salary amounts within this posting are reflective of the 2023-24 salary amounts and does not include the legislatively funded COLA for the 2024-25 year so the actual salary will be more). The Nursing Faculty reports to the Dean of Instructional Programs.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

Impart expertise, enthusiasm and creativity in the teaching of nursing.

Cultivate an effective learning environment.

Model professional nursing behaviors.

Effectively prepare and present content to a diverse student population with varied learning styles and lived experiences.

Provide quality instruction in various settings (classroom, practicum sites, simulation and skills lab) adapting to diverse teaching/learning situations.

Competently incorporate instructional technologies in course delivery, both face-to-face and online.

Seek and promote opportunities for student learning and critical thinking.

Assess, evaluate and document student learning and achievement of course outcomes.

Provide individualized support to promote student success.

Provide verbal and written feedback to students in a timely manner, including the grading of assignments.

Maintain currency of course content and materials, including course syllabi.

Protect student, staff and patient safety in practicum, simulation and skills lab settings.

Assure the clinical setting and the selected patients are commensurate with the student's learning needs, abilities, and course objectives.

Demonstrate understanding of the role of the faculty in assisting the student with the provision of patient care.

Collaborate with the Nursing Program Director and Nursing Faculty regarding student and program issues.

Effectively interact with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as a member of the educational team.

Uphold Nursing Program and LCC policies, procedures, expectations and standards.

Participate in the nursing program systematic evaluation plan.

Provide academic advising to students.

Fulfill Washington state vocational certification requirements.

Perform ongoing student, program and college assessment activities.

Participate in program, department and college activities and meetings.

Accomplish college service activities.

Participate in ongoing professional development.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution or baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited institution with a graduate degree in a health or education related field from an accredited institution.

Active, unencumbered registered nurse licensure in Washington State (or a multi-state license [MSL] approved by the Washington State Board of Nursing).

Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification.

Expertise and clinical practice experience in medical-surgical nursing.

Successful completion of background clearance (after hire).

Proof of required immunizations and negative drug screen per clinical agency requirements (after hire).

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Demonstrated ability and commitment to serve needs of a diverse student body representing a wide range of ages, abilities, ethnicities, education levels, and cultural backgrounds.

Success in being a collaborative and respectful team member.

Preferred Requirements

Experience teaching adult learners.

Experience using technology to enhance student learning.

Expertise in using a learning management system such as Canvas.

Experience in curriculum development and instructional assessment.

Nursing experience in specialty areas in addition to general medical/surgical is welcomed.
