The New Mexico State University (NMSU) School of Nursing is partnering with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico to establish a Nursing Professor of Practice whose role is to develop a nursing career pipeline program for rural New Mexico including tribal communities. The goal is to increase the School of Nursing's recruitment outreach and activities in rural areas of the state and develop opportunities connect these students back to their communities while they are at NMSU.
The School of Nursing has recently established a relationship with the New Mexico Hospital Association and its rural health network that will facilitate the proposed goal and activities. The School of Nursing will also leverage its partnership with the NMSU American Indian Center and the College Assistance Migrant Program, university organizations that conduct recruitment activities throughout rural regions of the state.
The new NMSU nursing career pipeline program for rural New Mexico including tribal communities will include:
•         Outreach and education about careers in healthcare and social services.
•         Recruitment of potential students for the pre-licensure and graduate nursing in rural and tribal communities.
•         Establishing a mentorship program for NMSU pre-nursing students in the 'pipeline' program.
•         Establish relationships with rural healthcare organizations and connect students back to their rural communities while they are at NMSU.
•         Establish a method to collect and evaluate data measuring how many students attend NMSU, how many are accepted into the BSN program, and upon graduation, where students are employed.
This is a full time, 9-month, non-tenure track position with the option for part-time summer semester employment. There is an option for the individual in this faculty position to work remotely if their permanent residence is in New Mexico. Travel to rural areas of New Mexico for outreach and recruitment activities will be required.  Appointed rank will be determined upon review of qualifications.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: •         Plans, designs, and provides didactic, clinical and/or laboratory instruction which reflect an understanding of the program's objectives and curriculum
•         Evaluates student achievement of curricular and course objectives and learning outcomes related to nursing knowledge and practice
•         Plans and executes outreach, recruitment, and mentoring activities for the NMSU School of Nursing's Rural and Tribal Communities Nursing Pathways program
•         Participates in advising and guidance of pre-nursing students
•         Participates in additional recruitment activities for the College of Health, Education and Social Transformation
•         Assists in curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation
•         Contributes to program, department, and college activities and initiatives including participating in program and department faculty meetings and serving on committees and participating in university functions
