The Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky is a 427-bed nursing home facility with multiple levels of care and multiple shifts available.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assists Director of Nursing as nursing department scheduler; monitors manpower & maintains sufficient number of personnel based upon supervisor recommendation (e.g., establishes & maintains 8-week electronic schedules for each shift; maintains daily staffing worksheets & updates master schedule to reflect trades, call-offs, approved leave; ensures staff coverage for call-offs during scheduled shift). Approves/disapproves requests for leave based upon supervisor recommendation; enters approved leave in electronic time-keeping system; audits electronic timekeeping records for nursing dept. & makes corrections as necessary; schedules & conducts Pic-a-Vac as it applies to bargaining unit contract. Completes & prepares orientation schedules for new employees; ensures nursing staff is scheduled to escort residents to appointments. Researches & analyzes programs, procedures & policies (e.g., leave programs & policies, tardiness program, call off procedure), researches & analyzes materials & information to develop trending & staffing reports beneficial to agency staff; provides technical advice to aid nursing administration in decision making. Interacts in a polite & courteous manner with internal and external customers. Coordinates & participates in auxiliary functions falling under authority of supervisor (e.g., assists with & monitors pick-a-post, daily ODH report, monitors patterns & trends within the nursing department communicating with Human Resources/Labor Relations trends/patterns identified as well as other situations experienced; monitor schedules of employees on Transitional Work). Reviews and monitors employee attendance (e.g., sick leave usage, failure to clock, absence without leave, failure to submit physician verification or other required documentation), updates & maintains employees' electronic document log. Reviews nursing employee timekeeping records to assist in payroll processing & in tracking time & attendance. Researches & responds to inquiries & complaints, furnishes information & explains nursing programs & policies regarding staffing. Works on special assignments & projects as directed. Prepares variety of reports (e.g., daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly); provides information to surveyors & performs variety clerical tasks [e.g., files, answers phone, maintains paper or electronic records relating to direct care & mandatory listings (e.g., employee telephone numbers); maintain records for PBJ per MDS guidelines, updating Kronos with education, run & submit reports.
