Registered Nurse - Night Supervisor: Competitive Compensation: Starting at $80,000 per year, negotiable based upon experience. They are a ministry with core values of compassion, acceptance, respect, and dignity. They provide end-of-life care in a home like setting. Registered Nurse - Required Leadership  Care Plans  Position Summary: Responsible for all administrative supervision and all aspects of resident care on evening shift Maintains the safety and security of residents, staff, families and volunteers during designated hours Serves as direct liaison with medical Hospice regarding resident care needs such as changes in condition and symptom management Serves as caregiver supervisor, support and instructor as needed, ensuring that routine care is delivered as per standards of care and as per established policies and procedures Serves in an administrative role, ensuring that all household duties are performed by designated staff, i.e., laundry is completed and put away, garbage is collected and disposed of properly, syringes are sanitized, etc. Assists in any way needed to ensure smooth functioning of both houses. Ensures attitudes and actions toward residents, families and staff are consistent with core values and supports the mission. Is a support to residents and families who are grieving, have questions and issues with care and provides compassionate support. Ensures that at the time of death, reverence and respect for the deceased resident and family is provided according to the customs and traditions of care of the body, the room; leading and including the family in the final prayers, if they so choose. Serve as a resource for all questions regarding resident care or general house operations. Orient all care staff to perform at a level necessary to maintain excellent standards of care. Duties and Responsibilities: Receives report prior to the beginning of the shift on current status of residents and relevant safety or family issues, new or pending orders, any issues that require follow up, current staffing and potential staffing issues, caregiver concerns or specific instruction needs Prepare to give a brief report to oncoming In House Administrator or designee. Report should start at 7:50 am, ending no later than 8:00 am Report should include pertinent information such as staffing concerns, calls to hospice and/or families, household maintenance issues, and resident changes in condition. Rounds on all residents and introduces self to family members if present. Oversees, supports, supervises and evaluates caregivers in their role performance, family or concerns and reports any major concerns to the Director of Resident Care, or designee Complete annual and 90-day evaluations for all staff you hold accountable, including all annual competencies. Reports resident care problems and care needs to Hospice in a timely manner. Mentor through your behaviors and actions proper standards of care. If a new medication is ordered, or changed, label and prepare that medication as per policy for caregivers to manage. Instructs caregivers on any new Hospice orders as well as on sound clinical observations and resident support that may be needed. Follows medication procedure as outlined in On Call manual when medications are initiated, changed, or discontinued. Notify caregivers of any order changes and document changes in the resident log as well as in the communication book and white board as needed, and encourage caregivers to document resident status after the order change is activated. Ensures that staff are correctly documenting in the communication book and 24-hour flow sheet and provides necessary feedback for learning. Orient new staff and keep competencies up-to-date on existing staff. Assist in annual education and training. Arrive no later than ten minutes before shift begins. Receive notification of all resident deaths and attend resident death. Offer administrative presence to family, other residents, staff and volunteers. Be present and ensure that staff attends and participates in all educational classes. General Information: Be familiar with the oxygen system, fire and security systems, and evacuation plan. Be knowledgeable about Core Standards of Care. Work with staff to replace caregivers who are last minute call offs to provide safe coverage for the house and the residents. Authorize overtime. Authorize switching shifts. Use judgment to change staffing schedule or change tasks for caregivers as necessary. If no other option, work the floor to replace the caregiver. Specific Accountabilities: The In House Administrator believes in and supports the mission, vision and values and supports its philosophy of care. The In House Administrator is sensitive to the needs of those in palliative care. The In House Administrator maintains organizational and client confidentiality at all times. Equipment Used: Computer, printer, phone, copier, fax machine, calculator. Computer Software: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, electronic referral software, etc. A variety of medical equipment and instruments including, but not limited to hoyer lift, stretcher chair, wheelchair, oxygen. Fire and security systems. Safety Equipment: Work environment involves exposure to potentially infectious diseases and unpleasant tasks that require the use of latex or vinyl protective gloves, gown and mask. Physical and Mental Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, and perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrists; push, pull, reach, stoop, bend, kneel and climb. Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to move objects. Moderate mental and visual attention required to perform machine operations and set up, read, and document resident information. Environmental Conditions: Work is performed in a typical medical environment. About the area:   Syracuse is close to Onondaga Lake with unique shops, spectacular restaurants, lovely lakeshore trails. Near the largest state fair, the New York State Fair and many well known universities and colleges. Explore a world of art, theater, music, photography, history, nature and play in Rochester, New York. From standing in the parlor where Susan B. Anthony was arrested to listening to great jazz on the streets. Rochester is located on the Southern shore of Lake Ontario and sits at the center of the historic Erie Canal. Only a 90 minute drive to Niagara Falls, 1.5 hours to the Finger Lakes wine country and 6 hours to New York City. World class events such as the International Jazz Festival and the Highland Park Lilac Festival, PGA and LPGA championships, etc. attract nearly two million visitors each year. The George Eastman Museum, the National Museum of Play at the Strong and the National Toy Hall of fame are popular with all ages. This beautiful area abounds with state and local parks which offer summer and winter sports, camping, etc.
