Department Description
The Non-CDL Driver will operate a passenger van/approved vehicle safely in transporting students and authorized personnel to and from schools/centers.Employees in this class are responsible for following an assigned route and schedule in the safe operation of a passenger van/approved vehicle.General supervision and training is received from the Lot Foreman, Assistant Foreman, and /or Driver Trainer.Employees in this class are prohibited from operating vehicles that require possession of a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL).

Detailed Description
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Operates a vehicle over an assigned route in transporting students to and from schools/centers;
Maintains order among students aboard and reports cases of misbehavior to school and staff officials through proper procedures;
Inspects vehicle and checks gas, oil, water and all lights, brakes, and safety equipment before driving; maintains cleanliness of vehicle (both inside and out);
Prepares reports of accidents and incidents, which occur;
Attends safety meetings and other meetings as necessary;
Prepares manifest reports as requested;
Keeps an up-to-date route sheet in the vehicle at all times;
Keeps required handbooks in the vehicle at all times;
Serves as a Transportation Attendant as needed; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Good knowledge of driving safety and courtesy;
Good knowledge of the operation of automobiles and passenger vans;
Good knowledge of the local streets and road system;
Good knowledge of state regulations and laws pertaining to the operation of vehicles;
Good knowledge of motor vehicle laws and regulations of the State Board of Education;
Some knowledge of first aid;
Ability to deal patiently and effectively with students;
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and
Ability to communicate effectively with Transportation department staff, school administrators, community members, students, and appropriate PGCPS staff.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Individuals transporting students must have at least three (3) years of driving experience and have attained the minimum age of twenty-one (21) years.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Driver ' s License with no more than two (2) current points.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
