Position Summary: This Network Service Technician III position is located in Salina and is within the Bureau of Maintenance. This position is responsible for the installation and maintenance of 800 MHz radio communications equipment, interoperability communications equipment, and interconnectivity equipment that supports the state communication system used by Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) personnel, Kansas Highway Patrol personnel and other public safety users. Travel and overnight lodging will be required.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Responsible for installing, troubleshooting, aligning, software/firmware installations/upgrades, repairing, and maintaining the components of the Radio System and ensuring proper operation. Installs, programs, aligns, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains the P25 subscriber mobile, portal and control station radios used by the Kansas Highway Patrol, Capital Police, and KDOT. Ensures proper operation of tower lighting systems, performs quarterly lighting system inspections as required by the Federal Aviation Administration and FCC, and is responsible for proper on-site repair completion and inspection documentation along with Tower Light Monitoring NOC notification. Responsible for knowing and executing the functions of the South Network Administrator for the 800 MHz P25 system to provide emergency backup response functions when needed. Installs, diagnoses, and repairs dispatch console computers, voice processing modules, console site routers, console conventional gateway routers, console site controllers, and dispatch control radios used by the Kansas Highway Patrol. Ensures proper operation and diagnosis of transmitting and receiving antenna systems including waveguide, dehydrators and coaxial cable used for microwave radios, tower site P25 base radios, control stations, conventional repeaters, control stations, and mobile and portable subscriber radios. Responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and maintaining back-up electrical power systems at Tower sites and Dispatch facilities. Perform District tower site inspections, maintenance, notifications, and tower site check list documentation, and ensures the tower sites and radio equipment meet Motorola R56 standards for grounding and lightning protection. Perform tower site building HVAC system electrical diagnosis and electrical repairs. Ensures assignment of capital equipment DOT numbers in District and assists with physical inventory of capital equipment in District. Provides radio communications technical assistance, diagnosis solutions, subscriber programming guidance and radio encryption support to customers, vendors, and contractors on the Radio System. Purchases and manages expenditures for equipment repairs and parts following State of Kansas procurement rules and documentation requirements and coordinates yearly budget requirements with their supervisor. Minimum Qualifications: One year of experience installing and servicing radio equipment and/or computer networks. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered. Valid Driver's License at time of appointment. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with 800 MHz radio system is preferred.
