The Innovation, Design & Learning (IDL) Multilingual Specialist works with teachers, leadership teams and the IDL team to further operationalize Vision 2031, a vision of innovation designed to reimagine schools from the ground up. An ideal candidate recognizes language and literacy as human rights and understands the need for critical literacy pedagogies and structures that are inclusive to sustain culturally, linguistically, and identity-diverse populations. The candidate is a thought and practice leader in various literacy areas, including connections amongst multilingual programming, language immersion, world language, and Language Arts plans and programs. Our ideal candidate is future-focused and action-oriented to systematically scale anti-bias, anti-racist (ABAR), inclusive multilingual programming across our schools. To further enhance the effectiveness of multilingual literacy pedagogies and learning, it is expected that the candidate will support administrators, teams and individuals in the scaling of instructional data usage. This involves utilizing data-driven insights to inform and improve multilingual language and literacy teaching practices, learning environments and all literacy experiences. By scaling the use of instructional data, the district can ensure that all multilingual programs are tailored to meet the needs of all learners and drive continuous improvement in student outcomes. Additionally, the candidate will systematize programming through collaboration with teacher teams and facilitate professional learning to promote instructional strategies that foster culturally, linguistically, and identity-sustaining pedagogies. With a strong aptitude for systems thinking, they possess extensive expertise in language learning, bilingualism, and biliteracy. They utilize translanguaging, immersion/dual language and world language pedagogies as valuable tools to develop and execute instructional models that seamlessly align with and enhance Vision 2031 and create scholars who are Global. In addition to a deep understanding and experience in a variety of literacies, teaching, learning and assessment, experience in several of the following areas is desired: Anti-bias, anti-racist pedagogies Professional development Instructional coaching Performance-based assessment Personalized learning Competency-based learning Project-based learning Blended learning Active implementation practices Transdisciplinary / Concept-based learning Measures of Accomplishment: Collaboratively developing and putting into action an E-12 multilingual literacy framework alongside the Personalized Literacy Specialist within the Hopkins Learning Framework. This framework acts as the guiding principle for all language and literacy programs in the district. Creating clear immersion, English Language (EL), and world language literacy models and pathways for elementary, middle, and high school levels. These models are developed in partnership with teams of teachers, coaches, school leaders, and media specialists. Planning and leading professional development sessions, strategic planning initiatives, and creating content to support multilingual learning. Creating and implementing effective programs and measurement and evaluation cycles to track student outcomes. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Multilingual Specialist will play a vital role as a key member of the Innovation, Design & Learning team, supporting the implementation of the Hopkins Learning Framework and Vision 2031. The major duties and responsibilities will include: Drive Innovation: Utilize the Lab Operating system to positively disrupt education systems to create new ways of thinking and doing. Facilitate Alignment: Facilitate the alignment of standards and development of E-12 multilingual learning progressions, while also providing learning opportunities for Hopkins staff to support educators' evolving roles. Manage programs that support and enhance multilingual opportunities such as bilingual seal participation, Amity Interns for immersion sites, and cross-cultural partnerships and travel. Build Systems: Works towards building sustainable and reimagined systems for curriculum, instruction and assessment through facilitation of the Hopkins Instructional Leadership Team with the IDL team. Additionally, ensure vertical and horizontal alignment for EL, world language and immersion programs. Support building administrators in providing aligned programming. Reimagine Professional Learning: Utilize andragogy, adult learning theory, to support educators' evolving roles and reimagine professional learning opportunities. Communicate: Synthesize complex information into concrete messages that inform stakeholders of goals, accomplishments, and continued challenges. This includes students, principals, teachers and staff, caregivers, school board, reporting agencies and community members. Promotes and supports the overall mission of the District by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment. The Multilingual Specialist will also be assigned other duties as needed. QUALIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education: B.A. M.A. preferred. Expertise in: Immersion programming and pedagogy Multilingual learner programming and pedagogy World language programming and pedagogy Facilitating adults through change processes An ideal candidate will be: Multilingual Experienced with building systems of curriculum, instruction and assessment Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation. Knowledge, Experience and Operationalization Abilities: The ideal candidate must have extensive knowledge, experience and abilities in: Curriculum design Integrating technology into instruction Innovative instructional strategies Conditions of online learning Data-driven decision-making Vigilant equity Interpersonal Skills: They must have exceptional communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills that will enable them to build an environment with a common instructional focus, promote initiatives, and convey expectations as they build system capacity and operationalize the E-12 personalized literacy framework within the Hopkins Learning Framework. Action Orientation: Moreover, the candidate must be able to design and deliver forward-thinking professional development for teachers, staff and leaders, as well as possess outstanding communication, presentation, and facilitation skills for a variety of contexts and stakeholder groups. Organizational Structure: The candidate should be deadline-driven and focused on both big picture planning and project management to accomplish role benchmarks and system goals. They should be able to challenge conventional thinking and give and receive feedback comfortably. They should also be comfortable making decisions and working in a flattened team and organization environment. Required General Knowledge: District policies and procedures. State and Federal laws and regulatory issues governing public education, including rules and regulations of the Minnesota Department of Education. Principles and techniques of making effective oral presentations. Computer applications related to the work. Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Required General Skills: Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Operating a personal computer using standard and specialized software. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Salary: Group 50, $45,627 to $82,203 depending on qualifications .
