Hiring Salary Range: $58,000-$64,000 DOQ The person in this position will contribute to the ongoing development of University of Minnesotaâ™s educational opportunities for incarcerated individuals. This position is grant funded for one year with potential for renewal and will focus on creating, supporting, and building a U of M degree program for delivery inside Minnesota Correctional Facilities (MCF) and strategize on how to provide avenues for education upon release. This position will report to the Program Director, work with stakeholders from across the University, and partner with Minnesota State colleagues through the TREC (Transformation and Reentry through Education and Community) partnership to ensure stable, collaborative, and sustainable opportunities.
Prison Education Program Development (40%) Support the development of the application for the Department of Corrections (DOC) for approval to deliver University degrees inside MCF facilities. Partner with the Program Director to coordinate development of University of Minnesota degree programs for delivery inside. Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders for stable and sustainable degree program. Represent the U of M at recurring meetings with DOC Central Office, TREC partners: Metropolitan State and Minneapolis College, and Big Ten Consortium for Higher Education in Prison. Manage program email accounts and ensure accurate, updated information on the program website. TREC Student Engagement and Resources (30%) Travel to metro area correctional facilities to meet with students and provide in-person support (advising, course completion, and college knowledge). Build strong relationships with stakeholders and advocate for the access, technology, and institutional support critical to meeting student learning needs. Strive to create an ecosystem of student services support that is comparable to that available to on campus students. Provide resources and support to TREC students considering continuing their studies at the U of M post-release Reentry Program Development (20%) Conduct outreach to U of M units to explore opportunities for collaboration to support students transitioning their study on campus post-release. Research successful reentry programs at higher education institutions. Develop and eventually implement a reentry program at the University of Minnesota. Volunteer and Student Support Services Coordination (10%) Oversee the recruitment, coordination, and scheduling of U of M volunteers to staff study halls and provide student support services at each facility. Provide support to volunteers with onboarding and navigating facility-specific training. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS degree with at least three years of full-time relevant post-degree work experience. Demonstrated commitment to student success, particularly with marginalized or underrepresented populations. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Valid driverâ™s license and the ability to travel to and from area prisons on a regular basis. Ability to pass DOC facility admittance requirements. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Effective organizational and time management skills. Experience working with incarcerated students. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse stakeholders. Ability to organize and manage data.
