In this role you will be a critical player, supervising the overall day to day, performance, coordination, and management of production of the specified mining shift to assist in obtaining safety, productivity, efficiency, quality, service, and profitability for the organization.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESEnsure employee Health and Safety through compliance with all safety and mine regulations, company policies and regulationsResponsible for ensuring proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment Coordinates open pit activities; loading, hauling, dumping and miscellaneous activities Control pit operations to detect violation of safety regulations and compile safety and production records Assist in work scheduling and planning, ensuring alignment to weekly plan deliverables Prepare reports on accident/incident that happen during the shift Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to ensure employees are informed of safety and production issues Organize training for equipment operators to improve their competencies Understand, promote, and operate by overall company vision, values, goals, objectives and strategies Provide job specific instructions daily basis and monitor progress Ensure that all mining employees are properly trained on the use of appropriate equipment Communicate routinely and effectively with the Project Manager and other supervisors as required Build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders not limited to but including Technical Services and Maintenance Teams Participate in the weekly planning process by providing inputs and highlighting any shortfalls within the plan that have the potential to disrupt operationPerforms other related duties as assigned DESIRED SKILLSDemonstrated ability to take initiative and produce results with minimal supervision at timesExcellent oral and written communication skills High level of attention to detail and follow-up skills Ability and willingness to work different schedules on site based on project needs Post-high school training in a related area REQUIRED EXPERIENCESurface/Open Pit Mining or heavy industrial construction experience Minimum of 5 years' experience as a shift Supervisor, in an open pit, with demonstrated leadership competenciesTechnical expertise: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations Effectively responds well to questions The ability to collaborate effectively with a talented teamAuthorization to work lawfully in USA without sponsorship from Thiess is requiredMust be fluent in the English language PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSAble to lift 50 pounds Able to live and work at high altitudes (12,000 ft. elevation) for a week at a time Able to work in extreme winter conditions with temperatures regularly below zero degrees Fahrenheit Able to stand for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and climb ladders Able to work for extended 12-hour shifts No auditory or visual impairments restricting the ability to see distances while driving and clearly discern auditory and visual alerts/alarms (not including color blindness) Quick response/reaction times Arm-hand steadiness and manual dexterity EDUCATIONHigh School Diploma or EquivalentPost-secondary University DegreeExperience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree qualificationADDITIONAL INFORMATIONAt Thiess we have a One HSE culture and want to ensure everyone is safe everyday: employees, families, and society.
