OverviewDuration:8 Months (4 weeks on, 2 weeks off, fly-in fly-out rotation)Positions Available:1Intake Date:Monday, May 6, 2024. Teck will provide support in obtaining a valid visa to perform work in the United States. Candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States and all offers will be subject to obtaining legal authorization.Application Deadline:We will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis.Minimum Qualifications:Must currently be enrolled in a recognized and accredited Canadian or American post-secondary institution throughout the duration of the co-op term. You must also be returning to a post-secondary institution after the co-op term is completed.Desired Background:Reporting to one of our Mining Engineers, we are seeking a Metallurgical Engineering Co-op student who is pursuing their post-secondary degree in Mining or Mineral Resource Engineering.About Red Dog OperationsRed Dog Operations is one of the world's largest zinc mines, located about 170 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle in northwest Alaska, near Kotzebue. Red Dog is an open-pit truck-and-loader operation, using conventional drill and blast mining methods. Concentrates produced at Red Dog are shipped to our metallurgical facilities in Trail, British Columbia, and to customers in Asia and Europe. The current mine life, based on existing developed deposits, is expected to extend through to 2031.This position operates on a 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off, fly-in, fly-out rotation. All transportation (including charger flight from Anchorage, Alaska to the mine site), accommodation, and food will be covered the work term.ResponsibilitiesParticipation in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every dayCollaborate with engineering and operations for the development of daily, weekly and monthly mine operations plansWork in wide ranges of mine planning and design, including pit and dump design, traditionally operated and autonomous fleets, production scheduling, and optimizationContribute to drilling, blasting and surveying activities and provide technical services to mine production and other mine site departmentsMonitor and perform analyses of operating areas, work with geotechnical evaluations of mine plans and operating proceduresAssist with the development, tracking, and reporting of compliance of mine permitsPerform economic evaluations, productivity analyses, and assist with capital expenditure documentationCreate and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do businessAll students will be required to complete pre-employment drug testing prior to commencing work.
