At our Madison location, in operation since 1906, you will be part of a team that is a global leader in the lactic acid bacteria industry for >100 years. Our research focuses on the discovery of next generation probiotics, postbiotics, prebiotics, and biological solutions driven by our state-of-the-art microbiome research using a systems biology approach.

We are looking for a highly motivated Microbiologist II to lead foundational method development, validation, and implementation efforts related to microbial identification. A successful candidate will apply micro and molecular biological approaches towards managing identification testing program(s) within the quality department. This position will perform identification testing necessary for the release of products, support investigational efforts, and work cross-functionally with global IFF technical teams to develop and implement industry leading technology.

Essential to the role are a thorough understanding of PCR- and Sanger sequencing-based technologies, micro/molecular biological methods, and bioinformatic tools (BLAST, alignment, etc.). A qualified candidate will have demonstrated ability to work as a team as well as independently to manage maintenance of equipment, routine testing, and results reporting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct routine identification testing associated with product release and investigations. Lead and develop internal identification program. Work cross-functionally to transfer, validate and, implement industry leading genetic  identification methods.  Train and mentor employees in the performing of routine identification methods. Communicate results in a professional and timely manner. Job Requirements Experience/Skills Required: Experience commensurate with an M.S., or B.S./B.A. in micro/molecular biology or related field with a minimum of 2-5 years of industry/academic experience.   Trained in microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills for communication of results to internal and external customers. Experienced in performing PCR and use of associated technology and related software. Experience performing and analyzing DNA (Sanger) sequencing data is preferred.
