OverviewDuration:8 Months (4 weeks on, 2 weeks off, fly-in fly-out rotation)Positions Available:1Intake Date:Monday, May 6, 2024. Candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States and all offers will be subject to obtaining legal authorization.Application Deadline:We will be reviewing applications on a rolling basisMinimum Qualifications:Must currently be enrolled in a recognized and accredited Canadian or American post-secondary institution throughout the duration of the co-op term. You must also be returning to a post-secondary institution after the co-op term is completed.Desired Background:Reporting to one of our Metallurgical Engineers, we are looking for a student who is pursuing their post-secondary degree in Metallurgical, Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering.About Red Dog OperationsRed Dog Operations is one of the world's largest zinc mines, located about 170 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle in northwest Alaska, near Kotzebue. Red Dog is an open-pit truck-and-loader operation, using conventional drill and blast mining methods. Concentrates produced at Red Dog are shipped to our metallurgical facilities in Trail, British Columbia, and to customers in Asia and Europe. The current mine life, based on existing developed deposits, is expected to extend through to 2031.This position operates on a 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off, fly-in, fly-out rotation. All transportation (including charter flight from Anchorage, Alaska to the mine site), accommodation, and food will be covered the work term.ResponsibilitiesParticipation in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every daySeeking ways to improve our process by collaborating with the engineering team and operations on new process development, plant process optimization, quality assurance initiatives, day-to-day troubleshooting, evaluation test work and data analysisAssisting with the advancement of technology through bench top testing and thermodynamics simulationsEnsuring a high quality of standards while collecting samples and performing analysis in the processing facility as well as in the lab environmentProject Management tasks, including organizing, scheduling and controlling the cost, and tracking the status of projects relating to plant modifications, expansions, and maintenance shutdownsReport preparation, and formal presentationsCreate and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do businessAll students will be required to complete pre-employment drug testing prior to commencing work.
