Overview:
The
Manager
External Communications
is
an
experienced
communication
professional
responsible
for
developing
and
implementing
communications
plans
that
advance
PPL's corporate reputation and strategic
objectives.
The
incumbent
provides
strategic
communications
counsel
to
PPL
executives and senior
leaders
and
manages
the
company's
brand
to
enhance
PPL's
reputation
with
stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Develop, update
and
maintain annual
external
communications
strategies
and
influencing
plans
for
PPL to demonstrate PPLs value as premier U.S. utility company; superior operator; leader in grid innovation; compelling investment opportunity; and engaged corporate citizen.
Gain
consensus
of
key
stakeholders
on
recommended strategies.
Supervise
a Media Relations Specialist and coordinate closely with a team of
communications
professionals and designers to
deliver
high-quality
external
communications products.
Oversee development and execution of
PPL's
social
media
strategy, corporate web strategy and content to deliver key messages to stakeholders and support PPL and business line objectives.
Develop, implement and manage LinkedIn strategies for key executives.
Create innovative strategies to increase brand awareness and thought leadership and maximize business results.
Support development of high-quality investor communications, including PPLs Annual Report and annual ESG outreach.
Assess
situations
quickly
and
propose
clear,
appropriate
responses
to
Corporate
Communications
and
PPL
leadership
based
on
desired outcomes.
Provide
leadership
in
crisis
Own
accountability
for
PPL
emergency
communications
plans.
Manage key contracts (social media management, press release distribution, etc.) that provide critical services to PPL and serve multiple departments and business lines.
Develop
and
manage
on-call
roster
for
corporate
media
relations,
including
provision
of
the
appropriate training.
Prepare
articles,
press
kits,
press
releases
and
other
materials
to
support
media
relations activities.
Develop
contacts
with
regional
and
national
media
to
advance
PPL's
corporate reputation.
Anticipate
and
prevent
public
relations
issues,
where
possible,
and
respond
effectively
when
they arise.
Engage
with
news
media
and
serve
as
a
media
spokesperson
on
behalf
of
the corporation.
Provide
media
analysis
to
monitor
the
success
of
media
relations
and
public
relations
initiatives,
track
brand
visibility
and
offer
insights
on
perspectives,
coverage
and
issues
relevant
to PPL.
Ensure
the
company
protects
and
advances
its
reputation
in
a
coordinated
and
consistent manner.
Prepare
remarks
and
materials
to
support
company
leaders
and
representatives
at
public events.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's
degree
in
communications,
journalism,
public
relations
or
related field.
At
least
7
to
10
years
of
experience
in
a
communications
function
with
a
corporation
or
public
relations
agency.
Experience
dealing
with
the
news
media
as
an
official
spokesperson
for
a
company,
government
agency
or
organization
is required.
Crisis
communications
planning experience.
Strong
project
management
skills,
ability
to
cope
with
ambiguity
and
experience
managing
multiple priorities.
Strong interpersonal skills and proven
ability
to
work
collaboratively
with
clients,
vendors
and
public
relations agencies.
Working
knowledge
of
current
energy
issues,
especially
as
they
pertain
to
regulated
utility operations.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience supervising high-performing teams.
