Steel plates, structural shapes, structural steel sections, fabricated structures, pressure vessels, forgings, castings, spare parts, housings, electrical and mechanical equipment, ferrous and non-ferrous materials, welding and brazing rod, rivets, bolts, tubing, flux, gases, etc. SOURCE OF SUPERVISION
Foreman or immediate supervisor. Performs work with a minimum of direction. DIRECTION EXERCISED
Work alone or directs other workers as required. WORKING PROCEDURE Receives instructions and drawings regarding shop and field work assignments. Interprets drawings and sketches, plan working procedure, and determines the materials, tools, and equipment required for the job. Handles and/or make arrangements for the handling of materials, tools, and equipment to and from the job site in the shop or in the field. Makes layout for structural assemblies, plate work and miscellaneous fabrication. Operates shop machines such as drill press, bending roll, plate shear, punch press, burning machines, etc., to fabricate parts. Performs work requiring knowledge of the welding properties of various types of metal, welding rods, welding heat, stress relief, allowances for fit-up and machining and the effect of shrinkage, warpage, and expansion. Sets up, assembles, cleans, and prepares item to be welded, Performs all kinds of welding, brazing, and cutting on any type of metal. Preheats, post-heats, and flame anneals parts and welds. Cleans and chips or grinds parts and welds. Build up worn or defective surfaces. Uses burning torch to dismantle assemblies and cut material to size and shape. Performs difficult rigging on heavy and unbalanced loads involving the use of gin poles, booms, hoists, chain falls, jacks, etc. Inspects job site and equipment to be dismantles, erected, or moved and refers to drawings to determine the best working procedure.
