Responsibilities
• Perform skilled equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and heavy manual labor for roadway maintenance activities• Operate equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, tractors, and similar equipment• Perform emergency roadway operations• Work outside normal work hours in emergencies• Fill additional vacancies within 90 days of closing date• Follow oral and written instructions
Requirements
• Knowledge of roadway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures• Experience operating dump trucks and other equipment• Knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and programs• Skill in operation and maintenance of hand and power tools• Ability to perform heavy manual labor• Ability to read and follow instructions• Possession of a valid CDL• Experience in roadway maintenance or construction• Valid driver's license, safety shoes, and frequent daily travel required• Obtain Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) and DOT medical card within 3 months• Obtain first aid, CPR, flagging, and work zone safety certifications• Ability to perform heavy manual labor and work in diverse conditions• Fingerprint-based criminal history record check, references, work history, and DMV driving records will be verified• Pre-employment physical and drug screen required• Work outside normal hours and in heavy traffic conditions• Applicants selected for interview may be required to perform a skills demonstration• Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States• Valid CDL required within 11 months of hire date• Completion of FMCSA-approved Entry-Level Driving (ELD) Training• State applications must be submitted online by closing date• Detailed and complete application/resume required• Equal Opportunity Employer• Hiring preference for Veterans and Members of the Virginia National Guard• Encouraging individuals with disabilities to apply• Market-based pay program
