Supervisor: Lower/Middle School Principals & Athletic Director

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Lower/Middle School (LS/MS) PE/Health Teacher will be responsible for all Physical Education classes and Health classes for the Lower School and Middle School. The incumbent will work in a team atmosphere planning and cooperating with colleagues and administration toward a common goal: to effectively assist young women and gentlemen to reach their potential in the academic disciplines of the Academy, and in emotional and social competence.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Academic Environment, School Community & Communication: Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated by the teacher schedule distributed by the Principals. Creates and executes lesson plans specific to the respective grade level. Develops and maintains a safe and inviting classroom environment conducive to effective learning. Prepares for assigned classes that align with the course curriculum designated by the Department Chair and/or School. Demonstrates proficiency through careful lesson planning and content expertise. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior; models desired behavior. Continually assesses curriculum and teaching to ensure inclusiveness for ability, race, ethnicity, and socio-economic sensitivity. Reviews assessment data at the departmental level to inform instructional strategies. Utilizes a variety of assessment tools to evaluate student learning, including formative and summative assessment. Works collaboratively with colleagues to plan instructional goals and objectives, and coordinate activities. Demonstrates knowledge of students' strengths, challenges, and learning styles. Attends faculty meetings, Back-To-School Night, faculty professional days, faculty work week, Moving Up Ceremonies, Open House, parent conferences, pep rallies/assemblies/functions/liturgies/retreats/meetings /special events, and willingly performs other duties, as assigned. Assists in upholding and supporting school rules. Maintains accurate and up-to-date student records. Uses email, phone, parent conferences, or UAConnect to communicate concerns with parents about grades or behavior. Business Affairs: Manages budget and supervises equipment inventories. Evaluates all LS/MS athletic programs on an annual basis in collaboration with AD. Completes an evaluation of the sports season in collaboration with the AD. Attends school liturgies, prayer services, retreats, and other mission-directed events or activities, as planned. Models desired behaviors for students both in and out of the classroom, including maintaining standards of classroom and school behaviors. Enthusiastically engages in professional development activities designed to support professional growth. QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Nutrition and Health, or related field; Master's degree and Certification preferred. Completion of student teaching required; 2-4 years of post-student teaching experience preferred. Coaching, athletics administration or support staff experience. Demonstrated understanding of educational technology integration in the classroom. Demonstrated understanding of effective teaching strategies for different learning styles and aptitudes. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation, listening and observational skills. Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management skills including the ability to plan and manage projects. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, volunteers and school administration from diverse backgrounds. Ability to navigate challenging situations with discretion and diplomacy. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment. Passion for bettering the lives of students. Desire to seek out professional development activities related to the latest instructional strategies, student growth and best pedagogical practices.
