The Litigation Paralegal provides essential support to attorneys in all stages of the litigation process, from case inception through trial and appeal. This role involves assisting with case management, document preparation, legal research, and trial preparation. The Litigation Paralegal plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and effective handling of litigation matters and contributes to the successful resolution of cases.
Responsibilities:
Case Management:
Assist attorneys in managing litigation cases, including organizing case files, maintaining calendars, and tracking deadlines.
Coordinate with clients, witnesses, experts, and opposing counsel to schedule depositions, hearings, and court appearances.
Prepare and file legal documents with courts, administrative agencies, and other relevant entities.
Document Management and Review:
Draft and prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and subpoenas.
Review and analyze documents, evidence, and discovery materials for relevance, privilege, and responsiveness.
Maintain document databases, indexes, and summaries to facilitate efficient case management and information retrieval.
Legal Research and Analysis:
Conduct legal research on case law, statutes, regulations, and procedural rules relevant to litigation matters.
Prepare legal memoranda, case summaries, and trial briefs summarizing research findings and analysis.
Assist attorneys in developing case strategies, arguments, and legal theories based on research and analysis.
Trial Preparation and Support:
Assist attorneys in preparing for trials, hearings, and arbitrations by organizing trial exhibits, witness lists, and trial notebooks.
Coordinate logistics for trial proceedings, including scheduling court reporters, securing courtroom technology, and arranging for witness subpoenas.
Attend trial proceedings to provide support to attorneys, manage exhibits, and assist with document retrieval and presentation.
Client Communication and Support:
Serve as a point of contact for clients, providing updates on case status, answering inquiries, and addressing concerns.
Prepare clients for depositions, hearings, and other legal proceedings by providing information and guidance.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all client communications and interactions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and/or paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program (preferred).
Previous experience as a litigation paralegal or legal assistant in a law firm or legal department.
Knowledge of litigation procedures, rules of civil procedure, and court filing requirements.
Proficiency in legal research tools, document management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, attorneys, and third parties.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
