Short Description The Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities will assess the psychosocial needs of patients with intellectual/developmental disabilities to offer and implement supportive, therapeutic interventions to meet complex needs during inpatient hospitalization.
The LCSW-IDD will be an advocate for neuro-divergent patients and serve as a resource for other hospital staff in areas of developmental differences, family-centered care, trauma-informed care, and age versus developmentally appropriate interactions.
LCSW's provide clinical supervision to LSW and MSW staff, as assigned by their direct supervisor.
Responsibilities: 1. Prioritizes and advocates for individualized care for patients with intellectual/developmental disabilities who have been identified within the Cooper Health System, helps identify new patients who meet criteria of same2. Assesses psychosocial and developmental needs of patients with intellectual/developmental disabilities and implements or adapts services and goals as needed3. Provides developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed therapeutic interventions for patients with intellectual/developmental disabilities, and their families, about health care encounters, the hospital environment, patient rights, new diagnoses or injuries, grief, coping strategies, and opportunities for developmentally appropriate activity, etc.4. Provides evidence-based, brief structured psychotherapy5. Assist patient/family with anxiety and stress precipitated by: - illness and/or hospitalization - difficulty in coping with residual physical changes or disability - fears related to helplessness, changes in lifestyle, and death - counseling specific to the need for long term medical care, the immediate crises and the discharge plan.6. Consults with and provides recommendations to the multidisciplinary team to increase patient cooperation and compliance with care and treatment while maintaining patient's dignity7. Documents interventions and services in a timely manner within the patient's electronic health record8. Works as part of the multidisciplinary team to communicate, collaborate, educate, and advocate for neuro-divergent patients and serves as a resource for other hospital staff in areas of developmental differences, family-centered care, trauma-informed care, and age versus developmentally appropriate interactions9. Supports the creation and management of administrative resources and processes (ie: clinical pathways) impacting patients with intellectual/developmental disabilities10. Assists in developing and facilitating staff trainings that enhance the care and service experience of patients with intellectual/developmental disabilities11. Participates in continuing education opportunities to remain updated on evidence-based practices, community resources, contributes to related continuous improvement objectives, and maintains credentials/licensure as appropriate12. Accepts responsibility for clinical supervision of students, or other team members, as determined by teams and discussed with director
Experience Required 0-2 years of experience, Minimum 1 year experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities
Education Requirements Master's degree in Social Work required
License/Certification Requirements LCSW required
Skills / Qualifications Ability to communicate with patients, caregivers, and coworkers required.Assessment experience & Psychotherapy experience requiredBilingual & CPR-BLS preferred Special Requirements full time, 40 hours a week
