The successful candidate will support Zebra's in-house patent and trademark attorneys in communications with outside counsel, docket management, collaborations with internal review committees, and departmental projects, thereby enabling the team to strategically and efficiently prepare and prosecution patent applications.The Legal  PatentAssistant uses initiative and discretion in accomplishing assignments, supports team projects, and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish work goals. The  Legal Patent Assistant assists attorneys in areas of responsibility by providing information on applicable rules of various governmental entities, such as patent office procedural requirements.Responsibilities:Manages process to make decisions on patent filing strategies and works with in-house attorneys and outside counsel to execute filing strategies in various countries.Opens and populates patent records in internal systems, including billing system and portfolio management platform.Collaborates with external docketing services vendor to maintain attorney dockets associated with patent preparation and prosecution action items.Prepares and files patent applications at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, including Patent Cooperation Treaty applications.Prepares instructional letters, subject to attorney review, directed to outside counsel in connection with non-U.S. patent filings and prosecution tasks.Fosters relationships with outside counsel, internal business partners, and service providers to ensure matters are being handled in a timely and competent manner.Qualifications:Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree required2+ years of experience in a legal environment (law firm and/or in-house) involving patent portfolio management and docketing systems.Preferred QualificationsExperience using billing systems (e.g. Legal Tracker) is a plusAble to work a hybrid schedule out of Lincolnshire, ILKey Skills and CompetenciesStrong organizational skills with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple workstreams.Ability to maintain discretion in handling sensitive information. uncompromising ethics and integrity.Detail oriented with inclination towards verifying and checking informationReadiness to assist team members.Willingness to bring issues to light, ask questions, and escalate issues when necessary.Ability to learn inner workings of business units and functions.Assists department leaders in generating reports from portfolio management platforms and reviewing billing materials from outside counsel and vendors.Come Join the Herd! Zebra is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace All qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identify, national origin, disability and protected veteran status or any other basis prohibited by law.
