The Department of Technology, Design, and Technical Education (TDTE) at Utah State University (USU) seeks candidates for a full-time, academic-year (9-month), non-tenure track term lecturer position in the Welding Technology program. The Welding Technology program offers both a Certificate of Completion (CC) and an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. In an effort to expand the availability of program course offerings, the successful candidate for this position will teach afternoon, evening, and dual (concurrent) enrollment courses as a major responsibility. This position is located on the USU Eastern Campus in Price, Utah. Review of applications will begin in June 2024, and application reviews and interviews will continue until the position is filled.
The starting date for this position is August 2024.  
With a primary role assignment of teaching (95%), the successful applicant for this position will teach, improve, and develop courses in the USU Eastern welding program with an emphasis on students enrolled in the Welding degree programs. Instructional emphasis will be placed on providing excellent instruction in the common arc welding processes, specifically GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, and GTAW. Specific courses within the work assignment may also include, but are not limited to, print reading, welding procedure conformance, weld inspection, AWS welding symbols and definitions, and metallurgy. The faculty member will also be expected to work collaboratively with other faculty members to enhance the success of the welding program and students. Additionally, the importance of providing welding training to non-degree seeking students will be emphasized; instruction to concurrent students, adults, and the local workforce as applicable will be expected. The additional role assignment is service (5%), and the successful candidate will be expected to provide meaningful service to the program, department, campus, university, the profession, and the community.
Duties include, but are not limited to: Designing and delivering classroom and hands-on instruction focused on maximizing student potential in the welding industry. Teaching courses in common and advanced arc welding processes (GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and SMAW), following AWS/ASME standards, for certificates and AAS welding degree. Teaching afternoon and evening courses, concurrent enrollment courses, and community/workforce training courses as needed. Teaching courses that provide workforce training and industry validated qualifications. Sharing in management, maintenance, and improvement of the welding facility and equipment. Sharing in the coordination of biannual program advisory committee (PAC) meetings. Advising and recruiting students. Participating in, advising, and promoting SkillsUSA. Actively participating in professional growth and development. Serving on departmental, division, and university committees. Collaborating as a contributing member of a faculty team. Fulfilling other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements: Earned A.S. or A.A.S. degree in welding or a very closely related field from an accredited school. At least two years of industry or related experience where work is performed to a recognized industry code, and is primarily focused on welding. CWI certification or the ability to obtain the certification within one year. Journeyman level welding skills in one or more arc welding processes. Teaching-focused candidate who understands, and is committed to, the mission of USU Eastern. A commitment to student success. Ability to work as a member of an instructional team; individual needs are subordinate to team goals.  Demonstrated effectiveness in written and oral communication, interpersonal, organizational, and team-building skills. Preferred Requirements: BS degree in welding, welding engineering, or a very closely related field. Experience teaching welding at a post-secondary level. Certified Welding Inspector (CWI). Experience with code-compliant welding procedure development and conformance. Experience in one or more of the following: pipe welding, pipe fitting, structural fabrication, SAW, brazing, manufacturing, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, 3D printing.
