Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
Receives and relays telephone and fax information in an accurate, timely and professional manner. Returns telephone and fax inquiries in an accurate, timely and professional manner. Contacts practice representatives with problems encountered with specimens/lab orders for a quick resolution and follow-up. Assists with other laboratory clerical duties.

Essential Job Functions
Must identify tests offered by the lab and those tested by a participating reference lab.
Must properly identify insurances and the tests that are to be distributed to participating labs.
Must identify practice locations and the physicians at those locations.
Must properly identify order problems and communicate with practices/physicians quickly for follow-up and resolution.
Performs computer functions (i.e. label reprint, report reprint, demographics, correction, add/delete test) as required in an accurate and timely manner.
Perform data entry functions as needed.
Behaves in a professional manner at all times.
Maintains a professional appearance at all times.

Licensing/Certification

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. (required)

Work Experience
Knowledge of medical laboratory terminology and protocols (required)
Data entry computer experience (prefferred)

Patient Population

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Works in a fast paced, well lighted, comfort controlled office. Interaction with physicians, staff, public, which may be constant and interruptive. High traffic area in a close work environment. Work may be stressful at times. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances and other conditions common to a clinic or laboratory environment. Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Frequent walking, sitting, bending and standing required for extended periods of time. Lifts and carries items weighting up to twenty-five pounds.

Skills
Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills:
Maintains knowledge of and complies with established policies and procedures (includes OSHA-Blood borne Pathogen Standard, OSHA-Hazardous Chemical Communication Standard, and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act).
Assures a clean and safe business office, including treatment rooms, kitchen and restroom.

Soft/Interpersonal Skills:
Must maintain strict confidentiality of work related information.
Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
