Resume and Cover Letter are mandatory to apply for any position. K-12 Arts Content Lead Position SUMMARY:
Coordinates and leads MPS Arts Programming -dance, theater, visual arts, media arts - including program design and implementation, professional development, and culturally sustaining curriculum design. Build capacity with school leadership teams and teachers across content areas to incorporate proven instructional practices to promote high levels of artistic engagement among all student groups. Facilitate the implementation of K-12 MN Academic Standards in the Arts and ensure equitable access to programming. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Support the District's strategic plan Facilitate district arts programming as a part of the Strategic Plan Cultivate relationships with local, state, and national arts organizations and professional groups Support implementation of the MPS core educational programming in the Arts Ensure alignment of arts curricula, instructional practices, and assessments with the Minnesota academic standards Lead process of creating/adopting instructional materials which support standards-based teaching and learning Design and lead professional development on culturally sustaining arts curriculum, instruction, and assessment for school leaders and teachers Ensure that strategies for specific students, including English learner support, Special Education services, and advanced learner support are integrated seamlessly into core curriculum and professional development Increase representation of MPS students' cultures in instructional materials and incorporate culturally relevant teaching strategies Promote strategies that reduce/eliminate racial disparities in course enrollments/access and student outcomes Provide support through observations/debrief, site visits, and collaboration with instructional leadership teams and associate superintendents Build the capacity of school leadership teams to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning at the site Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Current Minnesota license in an Arts area A valid Minnesota State Driver's License may be required Education/Experience At least three years of classroom teaching experience with evidence of effective instruction teaching a wide range of students from many backgrounds in an urban setting Experience with curriculum development, analysis, and implementation Experience in providing professional development to adults Demonstrated effective leadership and coaching skills in working with adult learners Experience preferred in program development, coordination, and implementation Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Mindsets A passion for student achievement and educational equity A demonstrated conviction that all students can and will achieve at high levels Knowledge of research and best practices in Arts Knowledge of the K-12 MN Arts Standards (2018) Ability to successfully provide professional development for teachers, principals and other staff members Capacity to develop, articulate, and carry through a vision for music and arts programming districtwide Effective communication skills, both verbal and written Demonstrated effective leadership and coaching skills A cooperative and supportive attitude in working with teachers, students, principals and other staff Knowledge of and an ability to utilize a variety of current technological tools for communication, planning, documentation, and professional development Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
