The Office of the Provost is seeking a John Deere Scholars Program Manager to play a pivotal role in guiding students toward successful college admission. This position is a 3-year specified term position with the possibility of renewal after three years.
In this position, the program manager will: design and deliver pre-collegiate programming, assist with college applications and financial aid, teach leadership skills, offer college preparation courses, and provide step-by-step support. By combining educational expertise with mentorship, you will contribute significantly to the aspirations and achievements of these future college students. They will also have the opportunity to:
Be responsible for the overall development, implementation, and planning of the John Deere Scholars program, an educational program utilizing both the resources of the University of Iowa and the assistance of the Davenport Community School District to teach the following: Collaborate with the leadership team to identify short- and long-term goals for the program. Liaise with community partners and the Davenport Community School District leaders in all four high schools to promote the program. Work Modality: This position is based in Davenport, Iowa and works remotely. A work arrangement form will be required to be completed upon the start of your employment. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree is required in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Psychology, Curriculum and Teaching, or equivalent combination of education and related experience is required. Experience (typically 3 years) related to working with high school or college students in the areas of academic success, college preparation, career exploration, or personal development. Possess a valid motor vehicle driver's license and meet the University Fleet Safety Program requirements (University of Iowa Policy Manual, Part V, Chapter 19). Demonstrates a working in the following competencies:
Communication techniques (oral and written) and relationship building skills that enable one to establish and build healthy working relationships and partnerships with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner. Position requires regular interaction with John Deere Scholars Program director, based in Iowa City. Advising students to help their emotional, physical, occupational, and social development. Communicating with students regarding their academic performance objectives and providing feedback to improve performance. Understanding of issues related to the decision-making process; ability to analyze situations fully and accurately and reach productive decisions. Developing, coordinating, and delivering educational/instructional programs. Maintaining confidential records and information. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working within a school district Experience with recruiting or retaining students from a variety of different backgrounds and perspectives. Experience working with corporations or their foundations Experience in curriculum design Experience in assessment and evaluation methods to improve educational goals Knowledge of practices, policies, procedures, regulations, and programming pertaining to college/university admissions, scholarships, financial aid, student services, alumni affairs, university relations and media, campus facilities, university community, advising and academic/collegiate degree programs.
