Responsibilities and tasks include: Performing electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repairs on, but not limited to complex commercial irrigation systems. Troubleshooting the operational failure of electrical and mechanical equipment, including but not limited to well pumps, reduced pressure zone backflow preventers, controllers, pipes, control valves, sprinkler heads, electrical and mechanical controls. Recommending the repairs and/or replacement of equipment to supervisor. Maintaining materials, tools and manuals as needed. Developing and maintaining professional relationships and communication with staff, vendors, representatives, and manufacturers as necessary. Adhering to yearly irrigation repairs, maintenance and replacement budget determined by the Assistant Director. Adjusting watering times on all automatic control devices and irrigation clocks for each district facility based on current weather conditions while taking into consideration the vegetation, soil conditions, and evaporation and water retention factors. Training site facilities operations staff on the use of irrigation equipment as needed. Managing and prioritizing work orders submitted by site facilities operations staff. Planning and performing preventative maintenance tasks. Operating equipment such as pipe pullers, track hoes, trenchers, and skid loaders to install systems. Performing Spring startup, inspection, and repair. Winterizing systems in the fall, including isolation and blowout of all lines, layup of wells, pumps, etc. Responding to irrigation system emergencies outside of regular work hours as necessary. Performing snow removal and deicing duties in winter. Planning, coordinating, overseeing, and executing irrigation system construction projects when needed, to include but not limited to well pumps, main/branch lines, control valves, controllers, irrigation heads, and other equipment. Obtaining relevant equipment specifications and budget pricing from vendors when needed. Organizing equipment and project specifications and working with supervisor in acquiring quotes and requests for pricing. Scheduling outside repair and maintenance vendors when needed to preform work while staying within the yearly budget. Performing other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned. Minimum qualifications include: Valid Driver's License Must obtain a commercial driver's license within one year of hire date. High School diploma or GED. Reduced pressure zone backflow preventer certification preferred Knowledge, skills, and abilities include: Knowledge of word processing, database maintenance, spreadsheet creation. Familiarity with web management systems and handheld electronic devices used in the control of irrigation systems. Knowledge of the sprinkler control devices and irrigation equipment available on the market. Operating electrical and mechanical equipment as it relates to irrigation system components. Applying basic math skills in adding, subtracting, dividing, multiplying, calculating percentages, ratios, averages, or percentiles. Timely and professional written and oral communication. Providing exceptional customer service and communication with individuals of diverse educational, cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, including staff, public, representatives of other organizations, and others. Prioritizing, planning, and managing multiple projects, and assignments, often simultaneously, in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment with efficiency, precision and accuracy. Examining new approaches and methods, initiating action, and rendering recommendations. Analyzing tasks, producing detailed plans, and evaluating the effectiveness of processes. Researching, compiling, analyzing, and preparing information and data; generating reports. Developing, monitoring, and analyzing budgets; coordinating resources to accomplish objectives on time and within budget. Performing all assigned functions with minimal direction in accordance with established management, departmental operations, and work methods. Helping, serving, taking instructions and working with minimum supervision. Salary: Class 8. View salary grids on Pages 11 - 13, Section 1. of the Custodial Contract Agreement; Per Contract, current rate of pay range is $25.41 to 34.16/hour; this is currently not listed in the contract as it is a new position, and will be added into the next contract; additional pay for CDL Work schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM or 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM. Work hours may be adjusted based on operational need. Job type or FTE: Full-time, year round Bargaining unit: Custodial Paid vacation 12 Paid holidays Paid sick leave.
