Ocean State Veterinary Specialists is looking for an experienced veterinary technician to join our internal medicine team. The OSVS team is made up of a talented yet fun group of veterinary professionals who truly care about their patients and clients. Position Overview:

Technicians perform a variety of animal-health duties to ensure exceptional patient care. Technicians should be proficient in intermediate nursing duties including but not limited to patient assessment and monitoring, phlebotomy, IVC placement, medication/fluid administration, medical calculations, transfusion medicine, anesthesia monitoring, etc. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of internal medicine and oncology and the ability remain calm during stressful situations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Deliver exceptional, compassionate nursing care to internal medicine patients utilizing a variety of technical skills including, diagnostic sample collection, intravenous catheter placement, chemotherapy administration, etc.Assist the doctors with internal medicine procedures of feline and canine patients (i.e. endoscopy, bone marrow biopsy, tracheal wash, etc.)Work under the guidance of the internist to relay information to clientsSchedule new patient consultations, recheck examinations, procedures, and technician outpatient appointments for the internal medicine serviceCoordinate daily scheduled appointments, procedures, emergency transfers cases, as well as inpatient consultations for canine and feline patientsKeep current in internal medicine trends through CE attendance

Skills and Qualifications:Minimum 2 years' professional experience in small animal clinical setting as a technicianState certification to practice as a veterinary technician preferredSuperior technical knowledge and skillsProficient in medical math calculations (drugs, conversions, etc.)Excellent communication skills with clients and team membersProficient time management, ability to problem solve, learn, and handle multiple tasksEnthusiastic team player with a patient, and positive professional attitudeMust be able to lift and restrain pets of at least 40 pounds, and work on feet most of the dayMust have the ability to adjust to changes in the environment and able to handle stress in a calm mannerMust be a team player, have patience and maintain a positive attitudeMust be able to anticipate patient needs and be detail oriented due to the high level of quality medicine

OSVS is located in East Greenwich, RI. OSVS is a 26,000-sf building with a very busy emergency service, a nationally respected internship and residency program, and specialists in Emergency/Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Radiology, Cardiology, Neurology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, and Avian/Exotics. Specialized equipment includes telemetry, endoscopy, CT scanner, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and MRI. Located in Southern New England, OSVS sees and treats pets from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
