UNIT OVERVIEW
Through immersive educational experiences, strategic cross-cultural partnerships, and informative research, the Carlson Global Institute (CGI) connects the Carlson School to the international business community and shapes leaders ready to confront global challenges.
CGI offers a robust set of education abroad options for Carlson School students, forges agreements with top institutions around the world to welcome incoming exchange students and establish elite executive education programs, and partners with global business leaders to create meaningful experiential learning opportunities.
The Intercultural Learning Specialist is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive intercultural development strategy for Carlson Global Institute programs and broader Carlson School initiatives. The salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000 annually depending on qualifications. This is a full-time, 100%, 12-month annually renewable position. JOB DESCRIPTION Intercultural Curriculum Development (30%) Develop, assess, and refine intercultural course content for assigned programs and units.  Collaborate with faculty to integrate intercultural learning into all Global Enrichment courses and select domestic courses. Coordinate with Global Immersion staff to develop intercultural interventions for semester and summer programs. Coordinate with Global Executive Programs staff to develop intercultural interventions for the GEP suite of programs.  Conduct and integrate intercultural assessments as needed - Cultural Intelligence (CQ), Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), etc. Ensure Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) content is integrated into intercultural learning opportunities. Lead continual experimentation to improve and align intercultural intervention efforts in courses/programs.  Instruction (30%) Deliver intercultural course content in select Global Enrichment courses, particularly newly developed courses or more complex, or higher profile engagements.  Deliver intercultural course content in Global Immersion pre-departure sessions. Deliver intercultural course content as needed in Global Executive Programs.  Deliver intercultural content in school-wide or cross-functional settings - (academic programs, staff trainings, advisory board trainings, etc.) Intercultural Strategy & Consultation (25%) Develop CGIâ™s intercultural learning objectives and strategy in partnership with CGI leaders. Field requests from other units and prioritize alignment with CGIâ™s strategic priorities.  Liaison to other units, including the Carlson Schoolâ™s Center for Inclusive Excellence, to ensure alignment and amplify efforts. Consult with Carlsonâ™s MBA Office on intercultural content in glocal courses.  Collaborate with academic departments on intercultural content in domestic courses. Consult with Carlsonâ™s Undergraduate Office on incorporating intercultural content in first year coursework. Oversee budget, contracts and purchase of intercultural tools (CQ, IDI, etc.), in coordination with CGIâ™s operations staff. Work with the Associate and Assistant Deans to ensure appropriate strategic direction and alignment with CGI and Carlson School goals. Develop relationships and coordinate with Carlson faculty in other departments to provide additional, project-specific expertise for intercultural work.  Oversight of content delivery and intercultural instructors (15%) Lead the development and delivery of intercultural content in up to 20 Global Enrichment courses and 4 Global Immersion orientations. Oversee the training and mentorship of intercultural instructors to support delivery of intercultural modules. Ensure coverage of all intercultural needs by prioritizing and assigning courses to certified trainers. Oversee Operations Team tasks related to intercultural assessment logistics and deployment. Continually work with and help train support staff in the to ensure that new challenges can be solved and intercultural content delivery runs smoothly from beginning to end.  *The employer reserves the right to change or assign duties to this position *
MINIMUM / ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced degree in relevant field and at least 6 years of experience, or a master's degree and two years of experience.  Teaching experience  An intercultural background as demonstrated through at least one year of living/working/studying in another cultural context Evidence of commitment to increasing access, diversity, and inclusion Demonstrated passion for intercultural development, experiential learning, and global education Ability to communicate effectively with others, including verbal, nonverbal, written, and intercultural communication
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SELECTION CRITERIA: Masters degree or Ph.D. in relevant field Certification in intercultural assessment tools (e.g. CQ & IDI) Demonstrated experience applying intercultural work in a variety of settings  Demonstrated success in teaching college students Demonstrated scholarship in a related field Project management experience Ability to travel internationally for 1-3 weeks at a time on CGI business, including serving as staff leader supporting faculty-led program as needed in January, Spring Break, or May sessions About University of Minnesota Twin Cities
