Position Summary The Department of Physiology (PSL) at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks an engaging instructor with a strong interest in undergraduate education who is trained in physiology or a closely related biomedical discipline. This is a full-time, fixed-term (non-tenure track), academic year appointment.  Appointments are for one academic year and are renewed annually based on funding and performance. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience. The successful candidate must demonstrate effective teaching of physiology classes to undergraduate science majors or non-majors. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
1) teaching a large-enrollment course in introductory physiology for non-majors,
2) assisting with online course instruction, and
3) playing an active and integral role in the broader mission of excellence in undergraduate education within the PSL department which may include committee service, outreach efforts, classroom innovation, and discipline-based educational research depending on candidate interests. 
Instructional duties include delivering lectures, coordinating teaching assistant assignments, evaluating student performance and reporting grades for the on-campus course as well as designing and teaching an online introductory physiology course using principles of sound instructional design. The successful candidate will actively collaborate with current faculty and MSU informational technology staff to advance MSU's strong commitment to undergraduate STEM education.

Required Degree Doctorate -Physiology or related biomedical science
Minimum Requirements This position requires a Master's degree in physiology or related biomedical science for the rank of Instructor-Fixed Term or a PhD degree for the rank of Assistant Professor-Fixed Term, from an accredited university. Experience in teaching organ systems physiology to undergraduate students  Commitment to effectively teaching and engaging students from diverse backgrounds Desired Qualifications Experience in developing evidence-based approaches to learning and teaching physiology Experience in the design and development of undergraduate learning experiences, such as lesson plans, mentorship efforts, workshops, or syllabi Demonstrated interest in scholarly teaching and professional development in support of applying innovative approaches to undergraduate biology education Leadership and mentoring of teaching teams, including undergraduate learning assistants and/or graduate teaching assistants Experience in teaching large-enrollment undergraduate physiology courses  Evidence in scholarly activities related to teaching and learning Required Application Materials Cover letter describing your interest in the position and qualifications. Department Statement The Department of Physiology and Division of Pathology Division have significant teaching and research missions. The position works with a global community of internationally recognized scholars from diverse nationalities, ethnicities, and backgrounds; two large undergraduate majors (Physiology and Neuroscience) with approximately 1,200 majors combined; the Molecular, Cellular, and Integrative Physiology (MCIP) graduate program, popularly combined with professional degrees (MD, DO, DVM); and vibrant research programs in areas such as cancer biology, cardiac pathophysiology, diabetes and obesity, gastrointestinal health and disease, immunity and tissue inflammation, musculoskeletal diseases, molecular metabolism and disease, and neuroscience.
