This position serves in a regional capacity. Persons serving in this role are required to assume residency in Montgomery, Bond, Christian, Fayette, Macoupin, Madison, Sangamon or Shelby county.and will be required to work from their home location as a base of daily operational headquarters to service their designated worksites. Essential Functions Inspects eggs at retail and wholesale distribution locations. Completes Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) Reviews Consults with business owners and operators regarding the interpretation of pertinent laws, rules, regulations, technical information, and inspection procedures associated with the Egg Program. Attends meetings and workshops regarding changes in technology, inspection procedures and administrative policies. Maintains vehicle, computer, printer, cellular devices and testing equipment. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college, preferably with coursework in fields relating to business, management or communications and the successful completion of an agency approved training program. Preferred Qualifications Prefers working knowledge of methods and procedures used in the examination and grading of eggs, licensing, sanitation, and inspection fee audits. Prefers working knowledge of accounting practices and principles. Prefers experience effectively communicating with associates, businesses and the general public regarding standards, procedures and regulatory information. Prefers experience preparing comprehensive and accurate reports and maintaining adequate records that could be used to substantiate the finding of bureau inspectors before a hearing officer or in a court of law. Prefers experience providing guidance and direction to other members of the inspection staff. Prefers experience interpreting applicable laws, regulations, and other documents. Prefers experience establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with comparable governmental agencies and representatives of the industries affected by the activities of the division. Prefers experience keeping confidential all information acquired during surveillance of business establishments and the examination of their business records. Prefers experience writing legibly and comprehensively, skills in conflict resolutions and effectively communicating in oral and written form. Prefers a basic MS Office Proficiency: the ability to use a computer, cellular phone and required software. Employment Conditions Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties and an appropriate valid driver's license Requires ability to sustain long periods of city and highway driving. This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history. May require a USDA shell egg surveillance license when grading eggs. Requires residency in Montgomery, Bond, Christian, Fayette, Macoupin, Madison, Sangamon or Shelby county. Requires ability to climb, work in an environment with dust, chemicals, livestock, refrigerated areas and outside during all seasons. Require ability to pass a pre-employment physical.
