Job Description and Duties The Information Technology Specialist I (ITS I) functions in the domains of Software Engineering, Information Technology Project Management, and Client Services.  The ITS I is responsible for supporting the design, development, testing, implementation, and documentation of the most complex data solutions and projects.  The ITS I serves as a technical and project support in the development of data-centric solutions to support the mission of the Chancellor's Office and California Community College system.
Under supervision from the Director, Management Information Systems - Data, the ITS I serves as a data-centric solution provider, focused on technology, data solutions, and data architecture for large-scale data systems and infrastructure.
The ITS I works on a team that leads the design, development, testing, implementation, and documentation of data collection, warehousing, and reporting systems.  On a project basis, the ITS I provides technical support and lead-coordination for Chancellor's Office staff and consultants assigned to the project.

Employees must reside in CA for a job appointment. 
This position has a hybrid work setting. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on the Chancellor's Office's evolving telework policy. The Chancellor's Office supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to the headquarters office in Sacramento if an urgent need arises.

Working Conditions Ability to use standard computer and/or office machines for an extended period of time. 
Work in a climate-controlled, open office environment under artificial lighting. Exposure to computer screens and other basic office equipment.
Periodic presentations may occasionally be required.
Ability to effectively work in a hybrid/telework setting within the state of CA.

When submitting supporting documents, PDF file format is preferred. Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Experience with data architecture activities and artifacts including analyzing, planning, defining, and documenting data architecture frameworks, including security, reference data, metadata, and master data Experience creating and implementing data management processes and procedures Experience and knowledge of a variety of technology disciplines including: Expertise in SQL Expertise in Microsoft databases (Azure SQL, SQL Server) Expertise in Microsoft software development tools (Azure DevOps, .NET Framework, ASP.NET, VB.NET, etc.) Expertise in data-centric solution design Expertise in data warehousing design and implementation, business intelligence reporting, and dashboard development Experience with data visualization Experience with data integration (ELT/ETL) for structured and unstructured data sets Experience with project management practices and techniques Ability to develop clear and accurate documentation, presentations, training, and other types of verbal and written communications Experience working with staff of varying levels, backgrounds, and technical knowledge and experience to gather requirements, understand business needs, and research and present alternative data architectures and solutions Benefits Chancellor's Office team members are eligible for a number of benefits.
