Histotechnician

Accountable to prepare tissue and slides for use by Pathologists in the diagnostic process to provide quality patient care.

Detect problems and document issues and forward them to the lead histotech or manager

File slides and blocks. Use log books or sheets as required.

Inventory supplies and notify lead histotech when re-order is needed

Monitor equipment functionality, perform maintenance and Q.C. procedures and document as required.

Perform routine technical procedures (cutting, embedding, staining, frozen sections etc) and maintain the benchmarks for both quality and quantity.

Performs activities associated with the archival of wet tissues and its subsequent safe discard.

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent, Required


EXPERIENCE: 1 year experience in a Pathology or Academic Histology Laboratory., Required


LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING: REQUIRED
None required, but must be working toward gaining eligibility to sit for the ASCP certification exam in Histotechnology.
