ChristianaCare is hiring a Histology Technician for the Cawley Center at Helen F. Graham Center in Newark, DE.
The Cawley Center for Translational Cancer Research at ChristianaCare's Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute links our clinicians, scientists and collaborators such as the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia promote research aimed at improving cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment. Our end goal is to accelerate our research findings into impactful clinical care plans. Successful translation of these discoveries requires creative and enduring relationships with industry, start-ups, and the life sciences community.
The position will support the development of two core facilities in the CCTCR, a tissue microarray core, and Organoid core. As a histo tech you would process, organize and prepare tissue blocks, tissue microarrays and slides for researchers, and to process tissue for organoid culture.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Verifies accuracy of specimen identification, accessions cases/specimens and maintains appropriate records.
Oversees pulling and cataloging required formalin fixed paraffin embedded blocks (FFPE) from pathology archives.
Assists research coordinators in screening and uploading patient data on formalin fixed paraffin embedded blocks (FFPE) into electronic database to serve as catalog for researcher Tissue Micro Array orders.
Constructs tissue microarrays using manual and/or automated tissue array instrument.
Cuts tissue blocks and coverslips slides according to established procedures and standards..
Assist with procurement and dissociation of tumor tissue.
Assist research team in coordinating and obtaining biological specimen collections.
Works cooperatively with supervisors and coworkers and maintains a good rapport with other departments.
Performs other related duties as directed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associate degree in histotechnology, medical lab science or related area
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Research laboratory experience preferred.
