Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit: The mission of Student Health Services is to provide collaborative health care designed to empower students to develop lifelong skills that enhance their physical, psychological, and wellness status in an inclusive and affirming environment.
Student Health Service: Provides student-centered, medical, counseling, and health promotion services which are affordable and accessible. Utilizes a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to wellness and health care. Provides an environment of inclusion, respect, and appreciation of diversity. Promotes professional excellence, responsiveness, and ethical practice. Is committed to the support of the educational, research, and service missions of the University. Position Summary: Review of medical records of students in insurance plans who receive services at Student Health Services and assigning codes that reflect patient diagnoses, procedures performed, equipment used, etc. to facilitate the billing and reimbursement process. To ensure compliance with correct coding initiatives, fraud and abuse regulations, HIPAA and other regulations. To organize and coordinate office operations, procedures, and resources that facilitate the organization's effectiveness and efficiency. Serve as backup for billing, ensuring claims are processed in a timely manner. To communicate in written and oral form and deliver appropriate information in a professional and respectful manner. Minimum Qualifications: BACHELOR'S DEGREE AND ONE YEAR OF EXPERIENCE RELATED TO THE AREA OF ASSIGNMENT; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE. ALL DEGREES MUST BE RECEIVED FROM APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS.
Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates: -Certificate in Medical Coding or an Associate's degree in Medical Coding

Key Responsibility: Coding/Billing
Essential Tasks: Creates and oversees administrative functions related to coding and billing in all Student Health Service clinic facilities. Maintains and establishes accounting policies, procedures, operations, and processes, for all client and insurance billing, coding and reporting. Utilizes the electronic health record to assist with the coding/billing process. Collaborates with medical providers when needed, to facilitate the coding/billing process.
