The Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for safe repair of mobile equipment including mining excavator, loader, haul trucks, water truck, dozers and graders.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESPerform electrical, hydraulic and mechanical repairsPreventative maintenance, in-shop and in the mine/pit Diagnose and troubleshoot As needed; weld steel components with welding equipment as specified by layouts, engineering drawings, work orders, and/or verbal instructions Comply with all safety, health and environmental rules and procedures While meeting safety standards, work with your team to maximize productivity and minimize downtimePerforms other duties as assignedDESIRED SKILLSWelding experience with mobile, heavy mining equipmentHitachi Excavator (5600-7) or Liebherr Truck (T264) experienceREQUIRED EXPERIENCEMinimum of 5 years heavy equipment mechanic experience in an open cut mining environment Experience working on :CAT 789, LIE T264, KOM 830E, HIT EX5600, LIE R996 size equipment and greaterExperience with the following; major component replacement, overhauls, and machine rebuilds in a mining environmentMobile equipment diagnostics Must be fluent in the English language EDUCATIONHigh School diploma or equivalentMSHA Part 48 Certification (Thiess will provide training if needed)PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSAble to lift 50 poundsAble to live and work at high altitudes (12,000 ft. elevation) for a week at a timeAble to work in extreme winter conditions with temperatures regularly below zero degrees FahrenheitAble to stand for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and climb laddersAble to work for extended 12-hour shiftsCan work night shifts (5:30 p.m. - 5:30 a.m.) seven days at a time and properly manage fatigueNo auditory or visual impairments restricting the ability to see distances while driving and clearly discern auditory and visual alerts/alarms (not including color blindness)Quick response/reaction times Arm-hand steadiness and manual dexterityWHAT WE OFFERA work environment where safety is always the number one priority.
