Position Type: Middle School Teaching: Language Arts Date Posted: April 2, 2024 Location: Woodland Middle School Date Available: August 19, 2024 (plus seven days New Teacher Orientation August 6 - 9, 2024 and August 14 - 16, 2024) QUALIFICATIONS
License/Certification: Illinois Professional Educator License valid for Grades 6-8 with language arts and English as a Second Language endorsements registered in Lake County
Education: Required - Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, or English
Experience - Required - Successful teaching or student teaching experience in middle school language arts and/or reading ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Has command of the subject matter and effectively implements the Woodland District 50 curriculum including Response to Intervention (RtI) and Common Core State Standards
2. Uses a variety of instructional techniques and differentiates instruction to meet the individual needs and interest of the students
3. Adheres to the guidelines outlined in the Woodland School District 50 Staff Handbook
4. Contributes and models a positive school climate through the support of the district's Strategic Plan and Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) program
5. Orders materials and supplies as per district procedures, with appropriate authorization and within budgetary constraints
6. Works cooperatively with other staff
7. Collaborates with staff and paraprofessionals to meet the needs of students with special needs
8. Meets and instructs assigned classes in locations and at the times assigned
9.. Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property; keeps supplies in good working condition, is responsible for all materials as well as manages repair of equipment
10. Adheres to all school and district policies and procedures, including maintaining confidentiality
11. Collaborates as needed with appropriate school personnel regarding students who may need specialized interventions
12. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil conduct in alignment with the Parent/Student Handbook and PBIS in order to provide for a safe, orderly productive environment
13. Uses a variety of assessment tools that support district curriculum and Common Core State Standards
14. Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs and interests
15. Utilizes the RtI to assist in reviewing data, determining academic needs, setting appropriate academic goals and implementing interventions for students
16. Maintains appropriate records of student attendance, projects, and grades
17. Posts grades regularly to district-approved student information system/grade book
18. Uses a variety of avenues to communicate regularly with parents and school personnel regarding students' levels and rates of progress
19. Gathers and maintains up-to-date records of student grades and assessment data to assist in the placement of students into appropriate language arts courses
20. Administers state and local standardized ability and achievement tests and interprets results to determine student strengths and areas of need
21. Attends and participates in daily team meetings and monthly grade level, department and faculty meetings
22. Keeps up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and makes relevant changes to instructional plans and activities to meet the needs of all students
23. Performs other such duties and assumes other such responsibilities as may be assigned by the School Principal, Assistant Principal or Supervisor KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Planning and Preparation - Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy, students, and resources. Design coherent instruction and select appropriate instructional activities, and has the ability to assess students learning. Classroom Environment - Creates an environment of respect and report, establishes a culture for learning, manages classroom procedures, manages students behavior, and has the ability to organize physical space. Instruction - Communicates clearly and accurately, uses questioning and discussion techniques, engages students in learning, provides feedback to students, and demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness. Professional Responsibility - Reflects on teaching, maintains accurate records, communicates professionally, contributes to the school and district, grows and develops professionally, and shows professionalism. Technical: Competent in digital environments; Chromebooks, databases, spreadsheets, publishing software, Microsoft Office, Google applications etc.
Interpersonal: Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, businesses and community. Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills. Empathetic, humanistic and open-minded. Strong sense of teamwork. Strategic thinker. Manual Dexterity: Work requires definite skilled and accurate physical operations requiring some closely coordinated performance.
