Play a pivotal role contributing to the understanding and prediction of hydrologic phenomena through the development of cutting-edge software. The USGS Hydrological Software Development team contributes to the development, maintenance, and refinement of code for the deployment of efficient front and back-end applications for hydrologic research and modeling. These applications and models are critical for predicting responses of hydrologic systems to changing stresses and bridges gaps between hydrological science and technology.
As the Hydrological Software Developer, you will utilize a blend of technical skills, scientific knowledge, and collaborative abilities to design, build, and deploy enterprise-level software applications to support internal business requirements and external customers and to contribute vital data to The National Map and 3DHD model. You will collaborate closely with the dedicated USGS Hydrology Team to extract, modify, and transform data to refine and deploy these applications, ensuring software interoperability and that performance and quality meets the needs of the end-users. You'll optimize the software for efficiency, ensuring it delivers maximum performance and integration capabilities and conduct rigorous testing and debugging to identify and rectify any issues, ensuring the software functions optimally and meets all specified requirements. USGS is committed to making its research and data publicly available, by developing open-source software, you'll contribute to the ethos of open science, promoting transparency, reproducibility, and collaboration in the scientific community.
Requirements: 5+ years of experience Ability to attain and maintain a Public Trust clearance Familiarity with GIS and ARC applications Front/Back-End Development experience Ability to develop in Python utilizing addins such as NumPy, GDAL, and PANDAS Proficiency in C# and Visual Studio Ability to navigate and develop in cloud environments Familiar with Export, Transform, Load processes Desired: Bachelor's Degree Self-Driven Autonomous Resourceful Get your feet wet and contribute your software development skills to the Hydrology Team!
