Position focuses on geologic records management to provide the public and industry electronic access to geological and engineering data. Assist in the review of geologic, geophysical, and well completion logs submitted by oil and gas operators to populate the OGMD risk-based data management system (RBDMS) with official standardized geologic-formation information. Assist in data management in Michigan's State Tracking and Reporting System (MiSTAR). Assist in the maintenance of RBDMS, MiSTAR, and other integrated OGMD modules such as Data Explorer, Field Inspection, and Electronic Forms. Assist unit specialists and senior staff to ensure that RBDMS, GeoWebFace, and Content Manager programs work together. Assist in the implementation of division programs. Maintain open communication lines ensuring information relating to division programs is shared through division reporting systems.
Required Education and Experience Education Possession of a bachelor's degree in geology or geological, petroleum or mining engineering. Experience Geologist 9 No specific type or amount is required. Geologist 10 One year of professional experience in carrying out geological activities to protect, develop and maintain natural resources equivalent to a Geologist 9. Geologist P11 Two years of professional experience in carrying out geological activities to protect, develop and maintain natural resources equivalent to a Geologist, including one year equivalent to a Geologist 10.
Alternate Education and Experience Possession of a bachelor's degree in environmental geoscience, earth science, or environmental science with 15 semester (23 quarter term) credits in the following core geology classes: physical geology, sedimentology/stratigraphy, mineralogy/petrology, structural geology and field instruction. In addition, the candidate must have 21 semester (32 quarter term) credits in elective geology coursework; and two courses each in calculus, chemistry and physics.
