Job Description:Summary:Barr is seeking a geologist to join its Bismarck office and undertake challenging and progressive work on projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites. Assignments may include working as an individual or as part of a project team to assist with environmental site assessments; on-site investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and vapor; aquifer test performance and analysis; development of a site conceptual model; preparation of drilling logs, geologic maps, cross-sections, and technical reports; and preparing technical work plans, cost estimates, and contracting for environmental investigations.On-site investigation tasks may involve observing drilling and monitoring well installation, classifying soil and bedrock samples, soil vapor monitoring and collecting samples for field screening and laboratory analysis. Fieldwork opportunities for this position may occur year-round and will likely include some out-of-town travel.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering, or a related disciplines6 or more years of relevant work experienceStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clientsStrong technical and problem-solving skillsAttention to detail, accuracy, and completenessStrong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheetsA flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needsWillingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs (including up to 15% travel and up to 50% fieldwork expected; project needs will vary seasonally and over time)L egal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the futur eV alid driver's license and a cceptable driving recordPreferred Qualifications:Master's degree in geology or related disciplineRegistered professional geologist, as applicable, or ability to become registered within one year40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certificationProject management and leadership experience with complex projectsExperience conducting communications, meetings, and negotiations with clients and regulatory and agency personnelStaff mentoring, building client relationships, and business development experienceA hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and one's home office. This position is based out of Barr's Bismarck, North Dakota, office.NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided.
