Job Description:Summary:Barr is seeking a senior-level geochemist to join its growing geochemical practice across the midwestern and western US and in western Canada. We are open to filling this position in any one of our current locations. We are looking for a collaborative consultant and experienced geochemist to provide both technical and project leadership for our geochemistry team.This position includes work on a range of projects involving tailings and mine waste, coal combustion residuals (CCR), legacy contamination, and other multi-media environments. The person in this position will use expertise in development and implementation of material and waste characterization methods and geochemical models to assess acid rock drainage/metal leaching, mineral solubility, water and chemical balances, and water quality.Technical responsibilities will include leading geochemical assessments, design and management of complex data collection programs, and senior review of discipline-based work packages, as well as preparation of technical reports and supporting documentation. Project responsibilities will include development of discipline-based scopes of work, schedules, and budgets, and management and administration of that work. Other typical activities include participating in technical conferences and seminars, mentoring and developing staff, communicating with clients, and participating in meetings and negotiations with clients and regulatory agency personnel. This person will help advance the state of our geochemical practice group through knowledge sharing, creative problem solving, and service development.The person in this position also will be responsible for client service and business development. Typical business development activities include building and maintaining client relationships, contributing to marketing campaigns and performing client outreach, fostering project opportunities, contributing to proposals and presentations, professional networking, and sharing Barr's capabilities with existing and potential clients.Minimum Qualifications:Master's degree in geochemistry or related discipline10 or more years of practical experience working in geochemistry or related fieldSpecific knowledge of low-temperature systems, environmental geochemistry, and the weathering zone (chemical reactions, mineral solubility)Specific experience with building and interpreting thermodynamic equilibrium geochemical models (e.g., PHREEQC, WATEQF, MIN3P, Geochemist's Workbench) and integrating these models with hydrogeologic, reactive transport, and mass balance models for predictive scenariosExperience with mineralogical characterization methods, instrumentation, analysis, and interpretation and knowledge of field and laboratory programs to characterize potential for acid rock drainage and metal leaching, including application of geochemical testing methods for prediction of water chemistryFamiliarity with mineral exploration methods, mine waste disposal methods, mineral processing methods, and mine and environmental regulations and policiesExtensive experience communicating technical results and uncertainties to diverse project stakeholders.General understanding of statistical methodsL egal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the futureDemonstrated project management and leadership skillsDemonstrated expertise through technical publications and presentationsDemonstrated business development acumen and client relationship development skillsV alid driver's license and acceptable driving recordPreferred Qualifications:PhD in geochemistry or related disciplineExperience in geostatistical analysis, block modeling, and economic geologyNetwork of clients in the mining, power, or related industryPG or PE licensure or ability to obtain licensure within one yearKnowledge and specific experience working on diverse mineral deposit types including copper/nickel, gold/silver, other precious metals, lead/zinc, steelmaking coal, and evaporitesKnowledge and specific experience in mine pit lake studiesExperience relevant to the subject matter of mineral project and NI43-101 technical reportsActive participation and leadership in professional geochemistry societies and/or technical working groups5 or more years of consulting experienceA hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Ann Arbor, Michigan; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Duluth, Minnesota; Hibbing, Minnesota; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Reno, Nevada; Denver, CO; or Salt Lake City, Utah, offices.Colorado and Nevada Applicants Only:Compensation:The anticipated base salary range for this position is $100,000-$140,000. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus.
