The Public Service Commission (PSC) is an independent state agency that is responsible for regulating more than 1,100 Wisconsin public utilities, which provide electric, natural gas, combined water and sewer utilities, and certain aspects of local telephone service to households and businesses throughout the state! Position Summary Th Gas Pipeline Safety Engineer (Public Service Engineer Senior) position performs independent and innovative technical functions of a professional engineering nature for the regulation of natural gas utilities and natural gas pipeline operators in the State of Wisconsin. Work is performed under general supervision and assistance of the Natural Gas Engineering Supervisor, with guidance from other experienced engineers and is reviewed for results, engineering methods, and consistency with Commission policy and pertinent regulations. The primary responsibility is to monitor and enforce compliance with state and federal pipeline safety regulations to ensure the safe, reliable, and environmentally-sound operation of natural gas facilities, which currently includes over 70,000 miles of natural gas pipelines and liquefied natural gas plants which provide natural gas service to over 2,000,000 customers. This not only ensures safe and reliable service to the natural gas consumer of this state but also the safety of the public in general.
This position requires the ability to travel frequently, including a variety of day trips and overnight trips that may range from a single night to a full work week. Each engineer must complete a minimum of 85 inspection days per year. While obtaining federal certifications, occasional travel to Oklahoma or other states for training will be required

Salary Information This position is in schedule-range (14-13) with an annual salary of $81,120-$93,600, plus excellent benefits . A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications Minimum Requirement: Upon application, candidate must have graduated with a 4-year degree or higher from a recognized college or university in a related engineering field such as electrical, mechanical, civil or environmental engineering; OR Professional Engineer (PE) credential; OR an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) license for the State of Wisconsin; OR have documentation from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services that deems the individual a professional engineer and qualified to engage in professional engineering practices.
