Job Description: As a Public Works Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks related to public infrastructure, including streets, parks, municipal buildings, animal control, and operating heavy machinery. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to public service.
Key Responsibilities: Perform routine maintenance and repair tasks on city streets, sidewalks, parks, and public buildings. Operate and maintain various tools and equipment, including power tools, mowers, and light construction equipment. Drive and operate a brush truck and other heavy machinery. Conduct inspections of public facilities and report any issues or needed repairs. Participate in landscaping and groundskeeping duties, including mowing, trimming, and planting. Respond to emergency calls for service and assist in emergency response activities, such as snow removal and storm cleanup. Carry out animal control duties, including capturing and safely handling stray or lost animals, and transporting them to the appropriate facilities. Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe work environment. Collaborate with team members and other city departments to complete projects efficiently. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license. Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL); the city will provide CDL classes and cover associated costs. Previous experience in public works, maintenance, construction, animal control, or a related field is preferred. Ability to operate and maintain various tools and equipment. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
